I may be traveling there in the future and am wondering if it is legal to bring my handgun there? I will most likly be flying and already checked with the airline it is legal to transport my handgun in accordance with federal law I.E. airline approved case ammo in original factory packaging in checked bagage.

But am I legal once I land in California though? I don't intend to carry I know thats out of the question I was planning on maybe going to a range while there and keeping in the house of a friend who I will be staying with for protection. I would think being I'am able to pocess a handgun under federal law it should be okay to have it in CA. ? any help with this would be great as I do not want to break any laws while visiting there thanks in advance?

There's a requirement to register your handguns within 60 days of moving here. No problem about visiting with them.

Make sure you leave all mags over 10 rounds home. That's a felony in the wonderful PRK :barf:

You also can't have a gun in your vehicle "just because". You must be going to/from the gunshop, range, etc...

Gun must be in a locked container and in the trunk.

Leave your mags unloaded as there have been a few cases of cops busting people for loaded mags thinking loaded mag == loaded gun. The courts have tossed those out but the word apparently hasn't gotten out to everyone on the street. Better safe than sorry.

Perfectly legal but don't bring any magazines over 10 round capacity. Transport in a locked case while in the state.

Stay home. No need to feed the economy of enemy-occupied countries.
