I might be moving to Kentucky.

Anyone there care to let me know if it is a Gun Friendly and CCW Friendly State?

Does the State or it's Counties require Hand Guns to be Registered?

Thanks!

Thanks leadcouncel,

Good to hear..!

Been thinking of maybe moving there, and, never even thought to ask about that till now.

In addition to our generous gun laws (no permits or registration required on anything without a fun switch) getting a CCW in Kentucky is simple, quick, and cheap (something like 50 bucks for a 4 year permit).

Plus...

If you hold a Kentucky CCW permit and present it to any FFL dealer at time of purchase, there is no NICS check; you just pay the clerk and leave with your new gun.

I THINK you can do the same with a CCW from any other state (we reciprocate everyone else's CCW, but you'll have to check with a dealer on that).

Kentucky is home to some of the world's finest whiskeys and bourbons. Tobacco is still a serious cash crop, and we're getting the Marlin bolt action production in the Remington plant in Owensboro, which means we make firearms.

In short, we give the ATF a lot of business. :D

If you get to move here (especially if "here" is central Kentucky) look me up. I'll buy you a beer or three and show you the local gunshops.

Not to highjack the thread, but I have inherited some land near Russell Springs. Is there anything there that an old factory worker could do for a living?

I don't live there, but that's the impression I get. How could it be otherwise if they host the Knob Creek Machinegun Shoot twice a year?

I'm in Southern KY if you move here I'll take the reins on buying you a beer or three ands let KY Rifleman rest.....I'm about 1 hour south of KY Rifleman.....
Y'all come......:)

Well, I will have to drive around some, regardless of what part I move to!

Ive often thought about moving there myself. My wife is willing also. Unfortunately we own a house that we cant afford to sell :-< We would look around Hopkinsville as she has family there.

Kentucky is a gun lover's dream. There's lots of places to shoot, hunt, and shop. Carrying almost anywhere is a plus too!

If things go right, we will be moving to the Lawrenceburg area next year, mainly to be near my daughter and her family but also to get away from Louisiana's weather, weather, weather, and polluted air.

My daughter lives out in the country and her husband and I take great delight in shooting in their front yard. We have even had passerbys stop and join the fun. He has killed more than one deer shooting an arrow out of a back window.

They just started a CCP system. I don't know why as there were few restrictions.

Hi leadcounsel,

That's cause you are not MOVING there..!

If you are already there, YOU buy the Beers.

( Well, the first round anyway...then it's the new guy who just moved there's turn...)

Lol...

Move to Kentucky and everyone else's gun laws will look, well, uncivilized!

Another advantage: we have CCW reciprocity with all the bordering United States, so traveling around the area is pretty simple. Daley's Socialist Republic of Illinois to the north, however, does not recognize our CCW permits, but basically being a foreign country, that's to be expected (no offense intended, Illinois folks, I know it's the fools running Chicago at fault).

Hey, markpcola I live fairly close to Russell Springs, (actually I drove over there today) there is a lot of summer employment thanks to Lake Cumberland, otherwise, not many jobs to choose from. Russell Springs is only an hour or two away from Somerset and/or Glasgow, which are larger cities and offer a few more job opportunities. Not a lot of employment opportunities, but plenty of views like this.....:)

Are there a lot of Bugs? Or Humidy issues there?

I have been in the Southern Mojave a long time now, no Bugs, next to no Humidity.

Are there plenty of smaller friendly Towns? Quiet Life? Good Food? Creeks?

Some bugs, lots of humidity. Overall, the weather is fairly reasonable...winters aren't too bad, summers aren't awful. Spring and fall here are really nice.

Best reason to live in KY

It's a local call to talk to God! ;)

Been trolling a long time and I've learned a lot from the folks on here. Thanks!

Oh and GO BIG BLUE!!!!!
