Is our gun culture getting a bit too complicated?

I still have no idea what IIRC means. I think IMHO means "In My Honest Opinion", but I'm not sure.
It's not a gun culture thing, it's an internet thing.

After 4 years in the Navy, 6 with the USCG-R and 12 years in the Merchant Marine I have seen a lot of acronyms...some guys tend to over use them just to kind of show off a bit.If your BS meter is starting to ping softly during conversation just ask the guy to U N A....

(Use No Acronyms) :)

I think shooting is a bit different than most three letter acronym users. Except for when typing, the vast majority of our TLA's are spoken out loud. Sure, NRA is still NRA, but I never use JHP, I'll just say hollowpoint, and only add jacketed/semijacketed if there are further questions. I don't say SBR I'll just say short barreled rifle, never AWB just assault weapons ban, or 'the ban'

on the other hand, I hear a lot of people who use the three letter acronyms to an extent I think they couldn't recall what it translates as. For us, most of it is shorthand for typing. For many other passions, it is always used.

As a paralegal (or a paralegal student to be precise), who is married to a law student, I almost find it refreshing to get home and fireup the old forums and bask in the wonderful wonderful world of internet shorthand...

Now, it can be a bit excessive. I don't like reading e-mails or message board posts which are dominated by shorthand. I can not stand the computer gamer "l33t" type stuff in any context.

But after spending the day with "Party in the first part," "hereinafter mentioned," and "Do hereby bequest, devise, and distribute...." Its kinda nice to read things written in nice short sentences.

IMHO TLA are not TEOTWAWKI, OTH L33t is a real PITA and NE1 who uses it should DIAF.
