Is private sale of firearms LEGAL in Wisconsin?

I understand that that the idea of private sale has its proponents and its opponents but I'm not looking for an opinion, just the facts.

is private sale LEGAL is the state of Wisconsin? buy private sale I mean i sell to you outright, no FFL paperwork. (am i going to get a knock on the door for even posting this? )

any ideas where i could find out myself without too much hassle?

Such sales are legal in Ohio between Ohio residents. What I wonder is whether there is an enforceable duty on the seller to verify that the buyer is an Ohio residency. I doubt it. I think a person coming in from out of state would be liable, but I don't think there is any body of law that requires a private person to check another's id. What if a person tells me he is a resident and isn't? What if he shows me a fake driver's license or someone else's? Or for that matter, what if I just say he did? I don't think private sellers should be cowed by that. Private buyers crossing state lines do so at your own risk, which I see as minimal anyway.

Look at each others drivers licenses and write up a bill of sale.

I would write up a bill of sale for anything with a serial number or worth more than a few bucks.

Exchange an agreed upon sum for the firearm being sold.
That is how it should be done, legally, in most locales.

You, as the seller, are prohibited from KNOWINGLY selling a firearm to a prohibited buyer.

Period.

Anything above and beyond that is exactly what the "other side" wants.
