Is Taurus going to offer a Commander....

I'm drooling over the PT-1911....finally a quality built, fully functional out of the box Government model that even I (with 6 months scrimping and saving) can afford.

My mind is set on a Commander though.

Has any one heard whether this is in the works?

Taurus say's they will be releasing a Commander size 1911, as well as 1911's in 9mm and .40, they just aren't saying when. I would expect the Commander in .45 before the other calibers, but who know's, and at this point I figure it'll be at least second quarter next year (though Im hoping sooner).

Remember too, SSN, that Taurus took a long time to finally release its 1911. The company can't afford to release a clunker. Nearly every day there's a thread on this forum about Taurus quality. I have no connection to the Taurus marketing department, but it's obvious Taurus also exploits every niche, so it's just a matter of time before there's a commander.

There are other inexpensive 1911s out there, but I'm thinking that Taurus may have enough size and marketing clout to be successful in this segment -- as long as the product is good.

Their early ads showed a short-butt compact model, more like a CCO than a Commander. They have quit advertising it, probably a long wait. It took at least a couple more years than intended for them to actually get the basic black 5" in the stores.

Yes, but I think his point isn't that there is anything to it, but rather that this is why Taurus has to be doubly careful that they have it right before they put it out. Someone has trouble with their S&W or SA 1911, they got a dud, or it just needed some tweeking. Someone has trouble with their Taurus 1911, it is "further" proof that Taurus is junk. So, they have to have it right.

Edison is no anti-Taurus poster. He is a regular at Taurus Talk, he owns several Taurus pistols, and he owns one of their 1911s as well.

I had the pleasure of handling one of the PT1911s yesterday at the range. Quite a value given the price. The owner commented that it was less picky about magazines than his TRP. Good trigger, I liked the sights, and the checkering was just right. Enough to enhance grip, but not so much as to bite the hand. I could do without the checkering on the trigger guard, but it was pretty smooth so not a problem really. He indicated it had run perfectly from day one. I may use this as an opportunity to pick up a .38 Super when they come out with one. I have enough 45s really.
