Greetings,
Am hoping to order my M16A1-style Dissipator Commando-ish AR over the Christmas holidays. SARCO has both the triangular handguards and the A1 grip, and I'll get a modern "Entry" buttstock since it reasonably closely resembles some of the shortened A1 stocks (and I'm only 5'6").
All the other A1 gear seems fully compatible with a modern AR, but I'm not sure about the 3-prong. Is the threading usually the same twist, and is the barrel threaded for the same length, for both the 3-prong and the A2 Birdcage? I was planning on asking Bushmaster to thread the barrel but leave the A2 FS off, and then I'd buy a $9 3-prong and just screw it on to the end of my barrel.
I'm pretty sure they share the same TPI, but wasn't sure how many "I" the barrel is threaded for. So, will I have extra thread showing on my barrel even after I screw the 3-prong down all the way? Or will I not have enough thread to fully secure my 3-prong?
Oh, and in reference to my earlier thread, I'm planning to go with the A1 upper rather than the slickside, as that way I can get a genuine stock warranteed upper from BM rather than a parts-piece.
Thanks for all the info thus far, and I'm glad I used then "search" button before bugging folks as to where to find the A1 handguards/grip.
