Interesting Alternate Flash Suppressors for ARs?

Greetings,
Still waiting on the Stag lower (backordered) to complete my A1 M4-barreled Dissipator project (see my earlier post on A1 uppers for photo).

I had been going to do this as a retro build, w/ A1 furniture and 3-prong, but have moved on from that idea. Part of the reason is that I've got a ACE Shorty Skeleton stock laying around, and want to try that one out first.

While I'm experimenting with different parts and pieces, any input on unusual options for flash suppressor? By which, I mean FS other than the A1/A2 models or the hi-speed aftermarket options now available. I don't care for the big AK-74 brakes (and I hear they're LOUD), but I would be interested if the cone-shaped 74 brake were available for the AR-15 series. I assume that the diameter and threading are wrong, plus it's for .21 caliber, right?

One option that came to mind was the earlier "onion" or "tulip" shaped M249 SAW flash-suppressors. IIRC, a few years back you would still see both kinds of SAWs floating around: one with A2 FS, the other with this odd bulbous one. Any chance that those are compatible with the AR, or available on the civ market? I can't find them on GunBroker, AA, or eBay.

With the ACE stock, the Dissipator looks vaguely Krinkov-esque, which inclines me to the cone type on aestheic grounds. This is still going to be a reasonably practical rifle for me, so I don't want to get too far off into left field just to dress it up, but if a given type of less-common FS works just fine (since I'm not attaching accessories onto it), I could go for something a little out of the ordinary. Thanks for any info,

-MV

I can recommend the Novesky Krink design for AR's.
I'm completely sold on the things, especially on short barrels. The noise reduction was VERY significant.

Noveske is making these with a modified plug with the correct diameter and thread for AR barrels.
It was around $100 but well worth it.

I've got a Phantom on my SU-16, which for whatever reason is normally pretty bright at night. After some testing I settled on the phantom. It does an extremely good job of killing muzzle flash, has got some SHARP prongs on it and is threaded so you can throw more toys on it. :)

I have a Noveske on my 7.5" upper, but I can't see the point of putting one on a 16" barrel.

Is this an NFA regulated item? Seems like something I wouldn't want to advertise if it was over-the-counter.

It's ATF approved as a flash hider. The noise reduction is only noticed by those standing BEHIND it. If you're the target, you'll hear it plenty

Something about that cone sort of pushes the noise and blast forward. Everyone that has fired it has noticed a tremendous reduction in perceived noise and muzzle blast.

Yeah, there was a whole big to-do on arfcom when the thing came out. I don't know if it would do much good on a full length either, but the reports from people that tried it were positive. Dunno....

It sure made a world of difference on my 11.5

Cool deal, then.

Where do you get one of these cone type flash suppressors? All the net searches i did only came up with other forums talking about them.

#1: They are hard to get.
#2: If you buy one from the factory you are going to pay significantly more for it.

You can buy one from many of the dealers who frequent AR15.com IF they have one. I bought mine from the factory, paid a total of right around $130 and waited a couple months to get it.

I got mine in 3 days. If you want the dealers name PM me. I paid just over $100 for mine but I don't know what the price is now.

Exactly: order from a dealer: you will get it faster and cheaper.
This is in response to the link posted directly to the manufacturer.
