Is the AR-15 3-prong flash-suppressor interchangeable w/ A2 Birdcage FS?

Greetings,
Am hoping to order my M16A1-style Dissipator Commando-ish AR over the Christmas holidays. SARCO has both the triangular handguards and the A1 grip, and I'll get a modern "Entry" buttstock since it reasonably closely resembles some of the shortened A1 stocks (and I'm only 5'6").

All the other A1 gear seems fully compatible with a modern AR, but I'm not sure about the 3-prong. Is the threading usually the same twist, and is the barrel threaded for the same length, for both the 3-prong and the A2 Birdcage? I was planning on asking Bushmaster to thread the barrel but leave the A2 FS off, and then I'd buy a $9 3-prong and just screw it on to the end of my barrel.

I'm pretty sure they share the same TPI, but wasn't sure how many "I" the barrel is threaded for. So, will I have extra thread showing on my barrel even after I screw the 3-prong down all the way? Or will I not have enough thread to fully secure my 3-prong?

Oh, and in reference to my earlier thread, I'm planning to go with the A1 upper rather than the slickside, as that way I can get a genuine stock warranteed upper from BM rather than a parts-piece.

Thanks for all the info thus far, and I'm glad I used then "search" button before bugging folks as to where to find the A1 handguards/grip.

The flash-hiders are interchangible.

The AR15 is a wonderful platform for the individualist because you can configure it to suit your needs and tastes. For more info on what's available, check out www.ar15.com and browse for a couple of weeks.

I bought a stripped lower (Stag) and LPK (again, Stag) and dropped a used upper on it. The thing is accurate and reliable, and I finished it out for less than $600 using nothing buy top quality parts. The only thing I bought new was a Troy folding BUIS.

Thanks VaughnT!

I've been browsing AR15.com for a few weeks now. Was slightly disappointed that basically every possible permutation of the AR-15 has been done on that board, but it does make it easier to play with the modular features after various AR-fanatics have thoroughly tested everything out.

The ongoing "Retro AR's" thread has been captivating my attention, as that's more-or-less what I'm working on: http://www.ar15.com/forums/topic.html?b=3&f=118&t=258186

Though I'm trying to get all the upsides of modern development with all the aesthetics of a retro AR. Since this will be my primary rifle, I'm more focused on reliability than in pure historical accuracy.

I'll probably order the 3-prong from DPMS; theirs appear to be new production. Then Sarco for the handguards/grip.

There are more than a couple guys on that forum who are apparently bored with just collecting one or two of almost every AR variation sold. So they buy a bunch of parts off the EE, mix up upper and lowers and make some interesting variations. Some of the results are very cool and some remind me of that bad kid in Toy Story. :uhoh:

Pre-A1 unfenced-magrelease lower with Nigerian Navy "skeletalised" stock and short-grip, lower...

Mated to a 10.5" 6.5 Grendel upper with gas-piston system and custom 6.5mm-bore Krinkov-style FS.

Been done, old news...
