Is the "new" Gunsamerica.com better than the old?

i dont even go there anymore. i can go to gunbroker, search easily and see full size pics. no confusing junk. simple, strait forward and accessable. exactly what gunsamerica isnt, but used to be.

The search on GA is just as easy as it was before- except now you can narrow down your search by more detail...I think it works better than before---I guess it's a matter of personal opinion. The pics can be viewed large after you register- I rre-egistered when they launched the new site- it took just about 25 seconds

I run an apple computer I am registered and have been for a long time. When the "format" kicked in I could no longer get the larger images. Customer-no-service said use Firefox, appleman. So...fellas you expect me to change my broser to fit your requirements? Really?

No, and I rarely visit there anymore. Everything is more complicated; used to be able to go there, search for something, and find it. Now you have to log in each time, even if you are "just looking".

Now I go to GunBroker or AuctionArms (which is almost as bad, but they have always been that way).

Or I look here on THR, TFL, etc.

Yikes! I'm working with GunsAmerica on starting to provide original video and audio content...I've forwarded them the kink for this thread!

I'm a Mac guy myself, and I've had to speak firmly to them about it...

The new guns america site is unbelivable bad. I asked G.A. why they had changed and they answered that the previous provider was anti gun. That is still not an excuse to have such a user unfriendly site with pictures of guns that are useless to the potential buyer. I am sure there wont be too many buyers at that worthless site any more. They are either clueless or dont care, or both.

I agree with the concensus here that the site is not friendly like it used to be. But I still go there when I'm looking for something because I can usually find it, and compare prices. I do prefer the old site for ease of use.

Hey... I just found this thread in a google search looking up New GunsAmerica. I thought I should bring it up that they just relaunched again.

I know they had problems the last time, but this site looks awesome and doesn't have any of the trouble that they had the last time.

Just thought I'd throw it out there.

The search function on GunsAmerica (and AuctionArms for that matter) just plain sucks.

I can think of a couple of improvements I'd like to see to Gunbroker's search function (namely I'd like to be able to filter listings by state while still searching a subcategory like "semi auto rifles") but its significantly easier to navigate and search than GA or AA.

I didn't like the old GunsAmerica, I liked the "new" one slightly better, but the new new one is meh.

I found a new way to search on gunsamerica that organizes everthing through categories, what don't you like about the search function??

The categories on GA are TOO specific. They're broken down by brand, not by action type like GB.

For example, lets say I want to compare 10mm pistols, on GB I start in "semi auto pistols" and search "10mm", on GA I have to just to a global search for 10mm (which gives me 10mm reloading dies, 10mm ammo, holsters for 10mm pistols, etc).

Also, when I try to do regional searches on GA it only works half the time ... and I KNOW there are plenty of guns for sale in Colorado, but half the time it tells me it found no matches to my search.

I'll admit that the layout of the newest GA is nicer than the last one ... still harder to navigate than GB (also, 90%+ of the listings on GB, GA and AA are the same sellers with the same guns).

No I was talking about version 3.0 (what they called it in the email).

I signed on yesterday and didn't need to sign on again... I guess they figured out how to keep me signed in (which I prefer).

I was just on GunBroker after having read this thread.

I do like GB, and have bought a few guns there and been pleased with the process.

What I went specifically looking for were some of the search features mentioned. I did not find the advanced features, and I did look into what they call their "smart search". I found a few drop down menus and the regular text search. So if you are looking for a 10mm you have to type "10 mm" into the search box. Then you have to do it again for "10mm" and you might still wonder if some doofus listed his under "Ten Millimeter" or "Ten mm". Typos on mfr names, model names, hyphen included or excluded? Oh, you're only interested in the rare 4" version? Good luck with your search. Better put on another pot of coffee.

Guns are not terribly complicated or diverse when it comes down to it, no more so than dogs. Dogs, whatever breed or size, have 4 legs, a long tongue, eat dog food, etc. Guns all have barrels, shoot ammo, etc.

I'd like to see their "smart search" improved to let the searcher discriminate between mfr, type (handgun, shotgun, rifle) sub types (like revolver/semi or pump/break-open, etc), by caliber, by barrel length, by color/finish/material (such as blued or stainless). I've used the Davidson's search engine and it incorporates many or most of these features. If it allows multi-select, even better - say you are looking for a 9mm or a .40 and are willing to take blued or stainless but not parkerized, and you're ok with alloy frame or steel frame but no plastic... Oh and you're only interested in guns within your home state so you can drive there and inspect it before purchase. Now, that kind of specific search might give you a reasonably short and easy to manage list, instead of 150 bogus leads that you have to sort thru manually.

There's no reason a search engine like this couldn't be made, and it would probably be very popular with buyers. Sellers, on the other hand, might not like having to click on a few additional boxes to list the item. To me, the benefits would outweigh the costs. Oh, and you should be able to set an "alert" of some kind when a gun you have been looking for becomes available, for instance a da-sa trigger with a parkerized frame in .380 - not going to find one every day and if you're not doing a search every day you might miss a rare opportunity.

Then again, maybe some or all of these features exist and I am just ignorant on how to access them.

were you talking about gun broker or gunsamerica?

Just to clarify your view, I know gunsamerica does have a wishlist function that will alert you when a specific gun is added.

Now as far as the search function goes... I guess it is all up to what you are looking for... I've never searched for anything so specific I haven't found it, but I do see your problem and wonder what could be done to improve it.

I have to advise now that if you wish to contact a seller on GA, you need to enter a code that will be sent to your e-mail account. Problem seems to be that EVERY time you want to contact a seller, you have to re-enter this confirmation code. GA really sucks now. Looks like Gunbroker and forum FS areas only from now on for me.

is it just me? or does it seem that the three posters in this thread that think it"s great are recently registerd first time posters. odd

It is really awful in comparison, the pics are now too small, info on sellers is vague to nondescript, and the search function is woefully inadequate.

Can't recall the last time I was there. You guys made it sound so bad I just had to go look. It is bad. The home page is about as unfriendly as you can get.

I didn't look at a whole lot of guns, but the prices did not seem all the friendly either.

I didn't find the categories so useful. If you want a Ruger GP100, do you look under Redhawk, Security Six, or SP101? Duh. I found listings under at least 2 categories.
Forgoing the categories and just typing GP101 into the search box brought up other listings that didn't seem to be in any category.

I also didn't find the wishlist so handy. Say you were interested in a particular CZ centerfire rifle model. The wishlist category is "CZ Rifles"; you can't specify model, or even centerfire. You'll get an email update about every model of CZ Rifle listed.

Finally, the use of Flash on the site drives me nuts. With my version of Firefox, the menus open underneath the "Gun Classifieds, Auctions, Offers Only, On Demand" bar (because it is Flash) so it isn't possible to click on the menu items. Lame lame lame lame lame. If it were a static image, it would work.

The layout is terrible and the last three times I tried to contact a seller asking questions about a gun I was interested in I never got any reply. The messages maybe didn't even go through, who knows, but it seems most of the time you can't even see a seller's feedback unless you can talk them into showing it to you. GB and AA are much better!
