I received my order of magic bullets today. Guaranteed one shot stops even without aiming! (just kidding of course)
Anyway, I got a couple of boxes of Winchester Ranger Bonded in 124gr 9mm+P JHP. They are very similar in profile to the Winchester Silvertips, however the Hollow Point is VERY shallow. See a Pic of the Rangers HERE, (btw - the cartridge on the far right is for reference, its a Winchester Silvertip). The Ranger Bonded rounds almost look like a FMJ with the tip sheered off, exposing the lead. Its unlike any round I've ever seen.
So what' up? Can anyone explain this design to me?
Thanks!!!
ps - oddly enough, I found one Ranger T (black talon-ish) round amongst the 100 rounds I purchased, go figure???

1858rem,
They were not super cheap, but I did buy them through gunbroker.com. The packaging all looks normal. The seller I bought them from is very active and has 100% positive feedback. I will tell you that the cartridges are not as "pretty" as some of the other premium ammo I've seen. In other words, cases and bullets have nominal color variations, but they don't seem as inconsistent as most reloads. All the cases are stamped properly.
Hmmmm....

Here's the answer I got from the Senior Technical Specialist at Winchester Law Enforcement Ammunition...

"The shallow hollowpoint is a design element of this bullet. It still opens up in gelatin quite well and this is in part because of the way the bullet jacket segments are scored. Different bullets have different combinations of hollowpoint shape, depth, jacket thickness and jacket segment design depending on the caliber, velocity and bullet weight to achieve the expansion we are looking for."
