Is there a "better" concealable 9mm than the PM9?

Not counting the rohrbaugh, is there a smaller, more reliable 9mm than the Kahr PM9? I'm really close to picking one up, but want to be sure there isn't anything I'm overlooking.

I've been looking at the Kahr PM9, Kel Tec PF-9, and Walther PPS as alternatives to my S&W 640 -- Unfortunately, all three seem to be nonexistent in stores and at ranges, so I can't try before I buy.

The PF-9 is supposed to be the smallest, thinest, lightest, and most ammo capacity for its size. Not to mention pretty accurate, durable, and fits right in your back or front pocket with ease, but that's from my perspective.

The Rorbaugh rs9 is the smallest, but at $1,000.00 it is pricey. I have two pf9's. One was a beater some guy before me trashed apparently. It fails to feed once every hundred rounds. I am going to take a dremel to the ramp and put a few bucks into it and have the slide nickeled soon though. That should make things a bit smoother and eliminate malfunctions. I got a good deal on it and by the pitting on the slide I knew it would be a project gun. Heck if all else fails I know Keltecs warranty is stellar and that they will take care of me.

The other pf9 I have is a hard chrome and has been flawless in hundreds of rounds through it including hollow points and several different brands of ammo. I carry it as often or more than any of my other dozen or so carry pistols. It is so easy to pocket, is ridiculously small and light iwb (though I usually go with the glock 26 if iwb) and 8+7 rounds of 9mm (reload) is plenty comforting to me. I got out the door with this used little gem for under $300.00 so still way less than even a used cw9 let alone pm9. I don't think a cw9 is pocketable unless you are one huge man, and that is coming from someone 6'5" and 350lbs. The pm9 is, however at $700.00 or so it is significantly more expensive as well. I do like that there are night sights available for pm9 as well.

One other option that is about the same size as pm9 but fatter is the Keltec p11. The trigger is not the best (not bad if you are used to revolvers) and you can get factory 12 rounders and have 13 rounds of 9mm in a 20oz. package. Not to shabby imo. I may still pick up a p11 one day soon if I catch one in chrome or parkerized. Keltecs parkerizing has gotten way better in the last few years. Good luck finding what suits ya! :)

The Walther PPS is an exceptionally fine handgun. They also are readily available in my neck of the woods; I was in a shop last weekend in Central Oregon that had at least two of them available in 9mm and three or so more in .40 S&W.

Well I had a P11 and now I have a PM9, and they are not alike.
The P11 never malfunctioned as so many write about but the trigger beat my finger to death and it was loooong and bad.
My PM9 has never malfunctioned, the trigger is shorter, much smoother and my trigger finger thanks me each time I shoot it.
So either one will work, just depends on how much comfort you want. Good luck.

I think that for the size, weight, and cost the Kahr PM9 is the best choice. I have a PM40 for the same reason. The Rohrbaugh is great, but I haven't been able to justify the cost to myself yet. The Keltec is a very good, low cost alternative; it is close in size and weight. The Glock 26 would be a good choice as well, though thicker than the other choices.

I guess they forgot about that one lol

not sure if it is better but a dam good gun never had any problems...lifetime warrinty and not bad on the wallet...maybe this will help

i have both a 709 and a pf-9. the 709 has a *MUCH* better trigger. i mean, orders of magnitude better than the pf-9 trigger. it also soaks up recoil much better. but the sights suck in comparison to the pf-9.

I don't know if there are better ones because I haven't tried every single one. That being said, I LOVE my PM9 and it has been nothing short of exceptional.

Check the weights as-well.

In the final analysis three years ago I did the PM9.

It's the only one that is "pocketable", IMO. IWB or OWB the PPS would work. I found the ergonomics better on the Kahr amongst the three.

Well there is the new, hard to get and probably yet to have the kinks worked out Boberg. It looks promising if it all works out.

In my opinion nothing out there is as good as the PM9 in pocketable 9's.

I had a P11 but hated the trigger.

Also had a PF9 but my PM9 is so much more accurate and comfortable to shoot compared to the PF9 I decided to sell the PF9.

the holster and wardrobe choice will dictate more the concealability of your weapon than the weapon itself.

Any particular reason why you're automatically discounting the Rohrbaugh? So far mine has been totally reliable (500 +/- rounds), and surprisingly accurate. Frankly, in light of my prior negative experiences with Kahrs, I consider my Rohrbaugh as money WELL spent.

For me the very high cost of the Rohrbaugh is what originally put me off.

In addition to the cost I noticed in the Youtube videos of the Rohrbaugh being shot is that in every video the shooter had to re grip the pistol between every shot and clearly the recoil is severe.

The fact that in the "Gunblast" Rohrbaugh test he did not include a video of the actual shooting made me suspicious since he usually does include videos.

It only stands to reason that firing a 9mm round from a P3AT/LCP size and weight pistol is going to generate a great deal more felt recoil than the 380 pistols would have.

I'm getting up there in years and have a degree of arthritis but I can still shoot the small/light 380 pocket pistols ok, but from what I've seen of the Rohrbaugh I think it's recoil would severely effect my ability to have good follow up shots.

While I'm sure it varies from person to person, I personally find recoil/controllability from my Rohrbaugh roughly equivalent to my Airweight J-frames (442, 642, 37-2) firing standard pressure loads, certainly less than when firing +P. It is night/day when compared to my Seecamp LWS380.

As for cost, I had originally considered yet another Kahr PM9, hoping I would get one that would be reliable this time. However, as I have had less than stellar experiences with assorted stock Kahrs before, I was considering one of the guns that Cylinder & Slide had worked over, reasoning that they should be reliable. However, at that price point, I realized that the Rohrbaugh was similarly (slightly less, actually) priced, and I didn't have the negative baggage as I did with Kahrs. It was also in the format that I wished Kahr had made, that being aluminum frame instead of polymer.

Anyway, at this point in my life, I have a rather large selection of handguns that I can carry whenever I like. More often than not, that is my Rohrbaugh R9S as either an off-duty gun, or an on-duty concealed back-up gun.

To me, I like Springfield EMP 9mm.

Not necessarily same size (or smaller) than PM series, but is still sweet to IWB (me not a pocket carry person).
