I'm in the market for a PTR-91 and a Kel Tec RFB

I can’t figure out if they can use the same magazine.

Does anyone know?

I wonder if there is any way to make the RFB take the G3 mags (since they are cheaper)

Not without getting Keltec to redesign the RFB.

When the RFB was first shown, metric FAL mags where much closer in price to G3 mags, but they've gone way up in price during the intervening years. Just keep an eye out and you can find them for around $15 on occasion. And there are some projects to start making new polymer P-Mag type FAL mags, which should increase supply.

The locking shoulders on the G3, the fact it is wider, the huge differences in feeding angles and feed lips...

just wouldn't work and it would cost so much to make it work you could buy another RFB cheaper.

Excellent condition PTR-91 mags are still going for only $5 or so each, maybe less.

If you can afford to shoot either gun, you can afford plenty of G3 mags for the PTR.

FAL mags are drying up but can still be found in the $20 range.

Cost isn't the only consideration.

Eventually I will ave 3 PTR-91s and 2 RFB.

it would be nice if they all shared the same mags.

I may actually go with FALs instead of the PTR-91s

As you can guess by my pics above I own both platforms. For a main battle rifle for use with iron sights the FAL in my choice hands down. However for use with optic I prefer the HK/CETME platform.

Why is a FAL a better design?

A PTR -91 is brand new, aren't FALs rebuilt kits?

Is there a thread that points out the pros and cons of both platforms?

Some available FALs are kit builds, some are new manufacture from DS Arms. That said, kit builds are not necessarily low quality. Some, done by gunsmiths who know what they're doing, are extremely high quality.
