is there a Ruger guru in the house? sbh 3 screw question

hello there! i'm taking my 3 screw super blackhawk to hunt a doe in a couple of weeks. i had it to the range to get warmed up with it. i'm planning on shooting it every few days till the tag opens up. anyway, question is, as i was cleaning following a range trip i noticed that one of the two rear screws on either side of the hammer had backed outward some. i snugged it, (about 3 turns) then checked/snugged, the others. every screw took some tightening, particularly the biggest one through the hammer. that was a mistake the hammer would only draw back about half way after tightening that screw. is there a system as to how to go about this? it wouldn't seem that they should be backing out, but everything snug is obviously not what i'm after here either. does anyone have some advice?

My ROA, which is very similiar to the 3 screw BH, came with a small amt of red Loctite on the threads and I haven't had any problems with it, even after a long day at the range. It's broken down quit regularly for cleaning and when the Loctite wears off, I replace it with a tiney amount in the threads and reassemble.

Somethings amiss with your SBH, the screws should all be tight without affecting the function of the trigger.

You should be able to tighten the hammer & trigger screws, or any of the other grip frame screws, until you twist them clear off without it making the gun bind up & stop working.

You need to find out what is wrong there.

Then reassemble using BLUE #242 Lock-Tight.

hmmmm, i appreciate the info. i hate to send it to Ruger, they'd neuter it, and stuff a transfer bar into it to protect me. is there a good book out there that covers single actions like this one? many thank yous! guess i'll take the model 57-1 instead uintil i can get this solved.

I've sent several 3 screws back to Ruger for the update. They don't modify anything in the gun, just replace a few parts. And they send all the original parts back with the gun so it can be returned to the original configuration at any time.

I ended up putting the original parts back in every one of the guns because the trigger pull on the new replacement parts was so gritty and crappy.

I think before I sent it back, I would pull it apart and clean all the crap out of it.

Might just be a simple thing, like a weed seed stuck between the hammer & frame that gets tight when you clamp it down with the screw..

thanks guys! i'm grateful for the input. this gun is so mint that if i didn't know better i'd think that it is unfired. i called Ruger this morning and all they would say is send it in, but that it would return modified for my, (their), protection. i'm going to order the Kuhnhausen book. it can't be that tough. 45 auto is right it has a sweeeeter trigger pull than the new models that i've owned. the old configuation was fine for the days past, and i'm from the days past!
