Is there any CMP affiliated clubs you can join online and print out a membership?

I'm trying to buy a Garand and, thanks to some help from other threads and a little searching, I think I know exactly how I need to do it.

1. Choose what rifle I want here, fill out the order form and have it notarized.

2. Get a copy of my birth certificate.

3. Get a copy of either my C&R license, CCW permit, Hunters Safety card or any other of the things they have listed under Marksmanship requirements.

4. Join and get a copy of my membership to a CMP affiliated club.

5. Send it all in with my money to:

CIVILIAN MARKSMANSHIP PROGRAM
ATTN: SALES
1401 COMMERCE BLVD
ANNISTON, AL 36207

The one part that is giving me the most trouble is the membership in a CMP affiliated organization. I have three options for clubs in my state (unless I want to do some time traveling, switch high schools and join the ROTC). The one with the most information online is only $15 to join but I have to print out the application and send it in and then wait and hope they actually send me a membership card/certificate because otherwise I have to take a long drive and bring in the CMP Membership Certification form to have a club officer sign.

So anyways, what I'm wondering is if there is any clubs you can just join online, pay your dues with a credit card and immediately print out your membership certificate or card?

Heh, dont even have to leave the office to qualify for a CMP Garand anymore. I need to get in gear and one before they are out.

I believe the CMP gets membership reports from the GCA so once you join, your membership info will be on file with the CMP after a short period of time. Much easier (and cheaper) than joining a local club!

That's right, there's a box on the Garand Collector's Association form to check if you want your membership released to the CMP.

I'd join the GCA and send a copy of the application to the CMP along with all the forms. That way they they will know you sent your app. to them and can look for the new members update they get from the GCA. That's what I did.

If you have a state rifle association, sometimes they are CMP affiliated. I joined the Texas State Rifle Asso online just so I could buy some CMP rifles. :D

It sounds like GCA is my best bet then. I still have to send in the form so it's not quite immediate but at least I won't have to worry about having documentation for CMP. Still, $25 for GCA is more than $15 for the club in my state. :(

alamo, thanks for the address. I don't know how I missed that. I looked all over the web page and could only find the one they listed at the bottom. I'll edit my post to the correct address.

Yeah, but you get a nice quarterly magazine about Garands though. Drop the GCA app. in the mail tomorrow so it will get processed quickly. Probably shouldn't slow you down any. I recall what it's like ordering your first Garand. I went through it a year ago. It seems like an eternity before it arrives. Mine showed up 10 days after dropping my application in the mail, that was pretty quick!

Doesn't GCA membership run from Sept to Sept. ? It seems to me somewhere on thier website I read that. So if you join in August wtill will have to pay membership fee again in September ( of the same year)

I just checked it again it says " Memebership renewal for ALL MEMBERS is held in September"

I wonder if the garand collectors see any irony in that people use them to get M1s from CMP yet their acronym is so similar to "gun control act"

I doubt it. What better way to encourage more collectors. Gets them extra $$$ for activities as well I imagine.

I have ordered two rifles from CMP. Both took less than 30 days from mailing date. Closer to 3 weeks actually.

By the way, just shot some of that Korean 'PS' stamped ammo today. Worked well. You might consider that stuff if you need to get hold of bandoliers and clips.

Might be worth a phone call to them on Monday to clarify this. It's almost mid-August. Ask if your membership can start in Sept. but still notify the CMP of your membership when your app. is received. Doesn't sound like an unreasonable request.
