I need to join a CMP affiliated club, as I'm ready to order a CMP Garand or two (perhaps caught Garanditis from this site? ).

Garand Collectors Association is the one I'm most familiar with and an economical choice. Unfortunately, it sounds like can be a slow process, as you need to snail mail them the application, and they no longer provide membership cards as proof for the CMP but instead send updated member lists to the CMP every so often. So, it seems like it'll be weeks before the CMP would be able to process my order.

Any other suggestions? Thanks.

esskay,

The GCA is about the "easiest" CMP unit to join.....

Other than the GCA you are limited to CMP affiliate clubs in your local area or state.

Check your state rifle association. Most are CMP affiliates.

Also, the CMP website has a full listing of affiliate clubs, broken down by state.

I think I read over on the CMP forum that the GCA sends a list over to the CMP once a week.

Join USPSA, go play with some pistols, 3-gun, whatever, affiliated club and all that!

Boy, I'm a dumb a**.

I had just scanned the club listings on the CMP website before, and it looked like one ROTC or high school program after another... Just looked again and realized I ALREADY am a member of one of the affiliated clubs. :banghead:

Thanks all for the replies... Sorry!!

Now I just need to find my membership card and get my order in!!!

I went the GCA route last summer and had my first Garand from the CMP in less than 3 wks.

Most state gun owner organizations do a lot of great things and cost the same or less as GCA.

If I'm not mistaken, if you have C&R FFL it qualifies you to purchase from the CMP as well, it's $30/3 years....

YOu are indeed mistaken.....

A C&R license fulfills the CMP's requirement for MARKSMANSHIP..... as does a match bulletin showing that you've been in an event, a concealed carry license, a LEO badge, an honorable discharge from US military service, or a birth certificate showing that you are over 60 years old.

You MUST still belong to a CMP affiliate club.
You MUST be 18 years or older to purchase a rifle.
You MUST be a US citizen.

Indeed, that's what I finally discovered! (at first, I didn't notice my state organization listed amongst all the ROTC listings) Now I gotta find a notary!

Thanks everyone for the replies, hopefully this thread helps some other CMP newbies.

Yep, thanks. I had my range officer sign off on the marksmanship/safety/range procedures form.

I believe one or two secretaries at my company are also notaries... would be funny to see their faces if I hand them the CMP form. :uhoh:
