I just received a new Browning Cynergy over/under for my birthday. Its my first over/under, and only my second shotgun (Winchester SXP pump was the first) - so I suspect a whole new set of experiences to learn from.

I cleaned and lubed the Browning per instructions, but I didn't see anything about a break in period. With the pump, I had read plenty about break-in (actually more like wear-in), but find very little about over/unders (other than the fact that it will eventually loosen from use). I did clean and grease as directed, which helped in making the opening of it a bit smoother. Is there anything else I need to know about owning a new O/U? Bits of advice?

It will get a little easier to use with time. Opening up my Beretta took a little effort when it was brand new for the first few hundred rounds. I presume a Browning would be similar.

++ Owen. I have a 12ga Cynergy eurosporting. The unique hinging system means much more surface friction initially but somewhere between your first 200 - 300 rounds, it will settle to easy opening. You will love it. That low profile receiver and crisp mechanical triggers are joy. Make sure to consistently clean old lune along surface bearings - every 600 - 800 rounds or when it appears dirty. Enjoy.

Yes.... break-in period does exist for O/U's.
I own both a 20 and a 12 ga O/U as well as S/A's in each ga. Both O/U's were 'stiff and tight as ____ when brand new.
The best expectation is indeed 200-300 rounds to accomplish general breaking in.
The bearing surfaces will basically "lap-in" one to the other as use progresses.
Personally, I apply a very light coating of a high quality "all-temp" gun grease on these bearing surfs and clean/re-apply same at least every other outing (approx 50-100 rounds ea. time out) or after any outing if surfs appear dirty.
(Liberal oiling of these surfs may allow stock to absorb excess oil and become "soft" over time).
Break-open action will become increasingly smooth and 'easy' with use and you will enjoy your O/U more with every trip to the field/range.
My O/U's are my favorites and get a steady diet of clays. Best trap/skeet guns for my taste.
Good shooting and I'm sure you will enjoy your O/U as I do both of mine.
PULL!
Hoss.

I had the opportunity to take the Browning out today to shoot three rounds of trap. Tied my best score so far!

I could tell by the start of the third set, it was already getting slightly easier to open and close. Shooting it was a joy, and I'm looking forward to the next outing to wear it in even more.

When cleaning it today, I noticed a few slight wear marks on the areas I greased, so it looks like I put lubrication in the right spots. Thank you for the suggestions on maintenance frequency.

I did have a slightly humorous issue today - keep in mind, this was the THIRD set...no issues during the first two.

Went up to the line, called pull, pulled the trigger. Nothing. (Safety on.)
Pushed off safety, called pull, pulled the trigger. Click. (Wrong barrel selected.)
Moved the selector, called pull, pulled the trigger. Clay turned to dust.

I'm sure I will hear about this from my shooting partner for a while.

Thanks everyone for the info!
