I have a friend with an FFL in Arizona. He has a new S&W 625JM he wants to sell me. He's asking $600 for it. I live in Calif., so I've got to add $50 to transfer it to a local dealer, plus shipping (I think you have to do it overnight now so I'm guessing at least $30), plus $19 DROS, and $49.50 sales tax. This comes to about $750.

A quick internet search leads me to believe this is a good, but not a great price. I don't really need the gun, I've just always wanted to have a moon clip revolver (but I'd also like to get a Keltec 3AT in California, a Kahr PM9, a new Remington 870, a S&W Centennial or M38, the list goes on...).

Should I pass, bite, or deal?

SEARCH SEARCH SEARCH

My FFL is $50 to transfer when I buy out of state that includes his fees and dros...no sales tax... so for only $50 extra its not too bad.

You can get a NEW 625JM from www.budsgunshop.com for $626 + $25 S/H.
They must have 200+ dealers in California listed on their web site. Make a few calls and find a close one who may not be so high on their transfer fee.

Good Luck...

Joe

Buying Advice

Thanks for advise on the 625. I don't have a lot of money, and especially don't want to waste it funding California Government Bureaucracy. I'm waiting for my friend with the FFL to send me his list of the other stuff he wants to sell. The really sad part is a lot of his inventory is not transferable to California.

I plan to check some of the other FFLs around here. I used to go a place in Whittier called the Frontier Gunshop, but they're out of business now. The guys I quoted for the $50 transfer call themselves The Gun Runners in Duarte. Don't know if anyone at THR knows anything about them. I know Martin Retting in Culver City doesn't do FFL transfers, and Kings Gun Works in Glendale charges even more.
