Midway has the 4 hole Lee turret press deluxe reloading kit on sale for $89.99.
Is this is a good deal or does Midway put them on sale cheaper than this a different times of the year? (Around Holidays). I am wanting to try my hand at reloading someday and I know alot of folks say to start with the anniversary kit and upgrade later. I'd rather start and learn with something I won't have to replace or upgrade later on.

Thanks

There is nothing wrong with that kit, but in case you're thinking it's the new Classic Turret, it's not. The press that comes with that kit is the older aluminum base model. As I said, nothing wrong with it, but it's not as robust or doesn't have the clearance of the Classic Turret.

Kemph gun shop has a Classic Turret kit - it's a little more expensive but I think you would be ultimately more happy with a cast iron and stell press that has single stage clearance and positive primer disposal.

Kempf Classic Turret Kit

Here is a link to the best deal, IMHO, on the The Lee Classic Turret Press--

http://www.kempfgunshop.com/products/reloading/leeprecision/kits/KempfKit.html

It includes dies of your choice, powder measure(I suggest you take the upgrade to the Pro Auto Disk--it's easier to use than the older model); Lee Safety Prime which is the most positive priming system around; and other odds and ends. If you don't have a scale or calipers you need those too and they have them at Kempf's Gun Shop. They are fair people and very helpful with questions. They are reloaders themselves and know the game well.

Agreed, get the bigger, stronger Classic "Cast" turret press. I would get a spare turret to have on hand (they are inexpensive).

I have also used the older aluminum base Lee turret press but it was intended mainly for pistol cartridges. It worked fine but the primer disposal on it is more like primer dispersal.

The double disk option for the powder measure will meter more powder for small to medium rifle cartridges. - Phil

My Lee 1000 progressive reloader works like that. :)

Another plug for Kempf :)

I wrote yesterday about my happy surprise with the service from Kempf -- when my credit card info was stolen and my online order (which had been pending at the time) was therefore thrown off, Sue Kempf said (paraphrasing, since her email isn't open in front of me) "Don't worry. Send me a check after the press arrives." The press has arrived -- shipping was fast, 2 or 3 days -- and my check should have crossed paths with it in the mail. THAT is customer service, IMO.

However, though I know it's arrived, I haven't seen my new press yet -- it's at home addy, while I'm at school. Next weekend, though!! :)

Another voice here for purchasing the Lee Classic Cast Turret Press combination package offered by Kempf’s and by all means make sure you do the upgrade on the powder measure and Safety Prime. A prime example of money well spent.

You can also find some good deals on Ebay on reloading items. That is probably a fair deal, but you can probably beat it.

Only issue with the kit is why $8 for the "other" primer feed lever? My Classic Turret Press came with both. I upgraded from the pre-2005 4-hole aluminum press so I could use the Safety Prime. Trust me, you want the Classic unless you like spent primers all over the floor!

I'm of the opinion that the original Auto Disk measure does better with lighter loads of flake powders than the Deluxe because it doesn't have the extra restriction from the cut off valve arrangement, so I'd think about saving a few bucks and staying with the standard measure.

The scale is not really an option, you need one. The calipers you can live without if you have factory rounds with the same bullet to compare against and use to set the seating die. But its something you'll want to have eventually.

What? Nobody has an aftermarket Lee Primer catcher?

I thought everyone knew about those. In 1988, I paid $6.00 plus shipping for one--which turned out to be a kokkona (sp?) cheese container and some mimeographed directions.

If I marketed one c/w special mounting bolts, etc., etc., for $9.95 + $5.00 USPS Priority, would you buy one?

Lee Primer catcher

Just take a large coffee lid, cut out a hole to let the ram operate and use a small piece of two side sticky velcro to hold it down and go to work. If anyone wants a picture, I'll post it. I only lose one or two primers out of 100 when decapping.:D

Buy the Classic, you will be happier with it. I have decapped thousands of rounds on my classic and not had one fall out yet. I have talked to many people that own the deluxe press that are happy and I'm sure it is a fine press also, but the classic is worth the extra money IMO.

This is NOT the Classic Turret Press-this is the older version

This isn't the Classic Turret Press--

It is nowhere the press, or deal, that Kempf provides.

Looks good. I will be ordering one with the 38/357 dies sometime here in the near future. Then I will probally be back with some "newbie" questions:p. I already have the book, ABC's of reloading and I'm going to pick up a copy of of the Lee loading manual. Thanks again everybody!

Brian, the books you bought are a great start. I just wanted to add that I started with the Classic Turret and it was very easy to setup and use without any help other than from a lot of the good guys here like Benedict1. It is a very well built press and will last a lifetime. Welcome.

Get the Classic Cast Turret

I upgraded to the Classic Cast Turret and it has functioned flawlessly. It is rock solid and has given great performance everything from .380ACP to .300RUM. I highly recommend spending the money to get this press.

Got my classic turret and a bunch of other stuff from kempf's. Great people to do business with. Sue was very helpful in getting me set up with everything I need including some of their cast bullets. I will buy powder and primers local as it is just cheaper that way.
