Is this an attempt to get a back door registration system?

So today I got my notice that my drivers license is due to expire in April which is a little weird in my case but that is not the issue at hand. What is the issue is that the CCW and the Drivers License goes through the Tennessee Dept of Motor Safety. The envelope that I received my notice in says The Department of Safety and Homeland Security. As far as I know this used to be two different departments of the government, One State and one federal So what are they doing here? Are they combining the two so they have a federal database of every CCW holder in the country in one location instead of one in each state? :scrutiny:

I think several states have renamed their public safety departments to include "Homeland Security" in the name, or to just be "[state] Department of Homeland Security"

Might take a google search to confirm it.

Either way, the state and federal departments of Homeland Security are still separate entities.

It is a name change of the Tennessee state agency:

On the right side margin, click on the "Visit the DMV" link and see where it takes you:

at the top of the webpage you will see:

"Department of Safety & Homeland Security"

Thanks, I thought someone was trying to pull a fast one on us. I'll be taking my CCW class in late Feb. And that will give me two months to save for the license fees and kill two birds with one stone so to speak. So I was wondering about before I spend the money for every thing.
