I've been wanting to get into long range shooting for some time, but never made the jump. Now I find a used CZ550 HET in 338 Lapua being offered with a nightforce scope for $1,500. Sounds like a great deal but still have some reservations.
The main attraction here is the price; $1,500 for the rifle and scope. The scope alone carries that price tag, and the rifle had an original msrp of over $3k.
Now the bad. The rifle has a stainless barrel. From the little info on the web I only came across one other with a stainless barrel. A quick call to CZ USA confirmed they've only released that rifle from the factory with a blued hammer forged carbon steel barrel. So is it a re-barreled action or custom build? I found this listing on GB http://www.gunbroker.com/Auction/ViewItem.aspx?Item=541285621 that indicates it could be one of three built by Lothar Walther. If true the barrel wouldn't be a drawback.
So what do you guys think? Good deal, or stay away?
Here are some pics the seller sent me.
