So I got my first handgun, an xd9 sc. Bought it used. Fired 100 rounds through it so far, 50 fmj, 50jhp. No failures what so ever, love the gun so far.

So I've been carrying for a few days and tonight for whatever reason I decided to check it out. All I did was rack the slide to eject the current round, and continue to do it through the whole magazine just to make sure everything was moving correctly. Then it jammed. Not sure what type exactly. The slide was stuck open, and the current round was still chambered and the magazine was stuck. After some play I finally got it to eject.

Loaded the magazine back up and tried it again. Same result at the fourth or fifth round. This time I was able to release the mag easier and then tilted the gun back to get the round out of the chamber.

Both times the slide locks up and the round is seated in the chamber. Is this normal? Should I not be doing what I was doing? Any help is appreciated!

Um, you were HAND cycling
LOADED rounds (as they still had the bullet attached)

so....
try it by using the BANG switch (called a trigger)
on a range,
hand cycling doesn't count on reliability.

Ok this is what I was wondering. As long as what I was doing has nothing to do with reliability then I shouldn't have anything to worry about

Hand cycling the rounds over-and-over will push the bullet deeper into the brass case. Don't do that, eventually the cartridge could become overpressurized when you actually do fire it.

If you need to empty your magazine without firing your rounds, eject the magazine, then slide the rounds out of the mag with your finger.

Hand cycling live ammo is a Very Bad Thing. It also doesn't tell you anything useful. If you have to do it though use dummy rounds or snap caps.
