Alright, here's the deal. I'm looking into building my first AR and I don't know too much about them. I'm looking at an upper from palmetto state armory. I know that there are better brands, but I'm on a budget.

Anyways, here's the one I'm looking at.

Does anyone have any experience with this upper? What are your thought on it?

BTW I do have one of their uppers similar to the one i posted and have really liked it so far. Only have about 500 rounds out of it, but no issues at all. I also bought their BCG and complete lower and those have been great as well. What do you plan on using the rifle for? That might help point you in the right direction

I mainly just want it to punch paper with, and maybe the occasional coyote. The only thing about the one you posted is that I have heard bad things about the freedom uppers, how does yours shoot?

PSA is a good product for the $. I just ordered a barreled upper with the magpul furniture last night for my father.
I like the look of the quad rail on this one.
AIM Surplus has the nickel boron BCGs for $99 shipped regularly.
Then you can determine how basic or extravagant you want to go with your charging handle.

Mine shoots really good. I haven't shot for groups, but it rings steel easily at 100 yards. The upper i listed is very similar to the one you posted, I don't see how they could be much different other than coating. The barrel may be a different manufacturer, but they are both 4150 CMV steel. I haven't heard to much bad about the freedom uppers. The PTAC is the lowest grade ones. For just plinking and occasional hunting either should be fine though. Check out AkOpererators Union youtube video they did on a freedom upper. They did a 5000 round test and it did really well. There are a couple videos in that series, but here is the final one

Have the Stainless freefloat upper with m-lock guard from PSA. It is my "go to" coyote rifle now. Built mine over the Christmas holidays when they had many sales. I'm happy with it and the accuracy is great. PSA is good to go on the Freedom line in my opinion.

That basic configuration is the one I'd buy for a general purpose AR - 16", 1:7 twist, 5.56 chamber, free float, medium weight profile, mid-length gas.

Given the price, 5.56 chamber, and mystery barrel source, I wouldn't have excessive expectations about accuracy. It should be OK. It it's better than that, you're lucky.

I agree with others that I'd prefer nitride over phosphate finish. Less wear and rust.

For some reason I kinda want to buy one of the Armalite LE uppers, and/or a Del-Ton extreme duty upper.
