I was told to move along or threatened with a loitering charge.
That would surely set my teeth. I think I'd have a hard time responding civilly to a threat like that.

Clean97GTI,

I've heard of a lot of people proposing the idea of doing that but that's awesome that you actually went out there and offered cash to buy guns for yourself. Sorry to hear that you didn't find anything worth buying before the cop came along. :D

I wasn't happy at being threatened, but I believe the cop could have very well done it. I don't need the hassle right now over something so petty.

I also had to get back to work. That would have been an interesting phone call. "Hey boss, I won't be back to day as I'm in jail right now. See ya Monday!"

I don't see this program in any way as being anti-gun. I also don't see this as being terribly affect either, as only a few dozen guns are turned in locally each year.
The problem with these "buy back" programs is they are designed to get the sheeple used to the idea of the state collecting our guns so most of us will politely and dutifully turn them in at the collection points when they decide to revoke our gun rights.

They also reinforce the stupid notion that guns owned by law abiding citizens are the same as guns "on the streets", therefore when they take grandpa's old shotgun thats been safely stored in your closet for the last 30 years they can claim to have "taken a gun off the streets".

I too stopped by but unlike you I was looking at seeing if I could get $100 for an old .41 Swiss that has been sitting in the corner of the garage ( Dad's first deer rifle, sporterized by Joe the plumber). My partners plan was to take the gift certificate and make a down payment on an 870 and then put the balance on the NRA credit card and use my CCW as the second form of ID. Alas I couldn't get in the parking lot and i wasn't going to spend an hour idling in my car to get to the head of the line. I will say I went by later and they had shut down early (15:00). They ran out of money. I did see three folks get out of the car next to mine with a plastic grocery bag that had a factory pistol box in it (couldn’t tell the make) also get turned away. The female of the three looked like a crack queen if I ever saw one. This would have dissuaded me from a lot of lot purchases.

I think it is a great way to get rid of old guns!

I can't see why Wal-Mart should be taking any flack at all for this program :cuss: It is a good way to get rid of old, unwanted, uncared for, unsecured, guns. In Oregon when these programs are advertised they say up front that all guns taken in will be melted down. Nobody is going to buy them, sell them - period! As long as nobody is forced to participate in such a program it sure looks like a great idea to me. Good shooting;)
