Islamic organization has infiltrated a gun message board

In a lot of traditional cyberpunk novels, if a hacker was "jacked into cyberspace", a hostile defender could send a program back through the net that would literally burn out their brain.

I wish that were possible here.

Do I have this right?. Some islamic extremest toss off hacked into and wiped out the websight and now they are moving to a new server? And all because this jackass can't stand the idea of women with guns? Or did he just want to piss someone off at random?

It is some kid who is just using Islam as a cover for his take over attack on a website with poor security. No group would give shot outs to a bunch of IRC names. The people who run the forum should put more interest on security.

Bill2k1 wins the prize. No way that was done by a Muslim extremist.

Sounds more like a teenager with too much time...

Computer Science project

When I was living in Izmir, Turkey 1989 - 1992, there was a university professor at the local Ege University teaching a college class for programmers and one of the class assignments was to develop a new virus. Looks as if his class may be focusing on hacking the internet.

These guys don't rate being called an "Islamic organization". They're just a gang of Turkish crackers, probably teenagers. More than likely they utilized a known exploit because of administrator's carelessness. I doubt there was any serious hacking involved.

Manedwolf, my hat's off to ya. Best laugh I've had all day!

Seriously guys, it's HIGHLY unlikely the folks who did this had any connexion to Islam at all. This is just something for them to spray on the page they've defaced. A couple of years ago, everybody wrote pages demanding the independence of Kashmir when they did this. Check out this site for a good archive of website defacement.

Oh, and just to clear up some terminology: this was not done by HACKERS. Hackers are people who modify things in inventive ways to make them work better, or in ways above and beyond their initial design. Hackers don't deface websites; it's looked upon as childish and counterproductive.

What's more, usage of the word "hacker" (which is a badge of honor among programmers--ask any veteran *nix guy) implies that the people that do this have some degree of creativity or talent. They don't. Most often, these things are done using scripts found on the web to exploit well-known, pre-existing security holes.

Sorry, but I'm anal about that sort of thing :)

All you have to do to hack the entire Muslim world is show some pictures of their diety. They're insane.

Cosmoline and Manedwolf, would you care to retract your stupid bigoted remarks?

Funny? Apparently not everyone thinks so:

WASHINGTON, March 15: The editor who chose to publish in a student-run university newspaper six of the cartoons that sparked uproar in the Muslim world has been fired, the publisher of the newspaper said.

Acton H. Gorton and his opinions page editor Chuck Prochaska were suspended from The Daily Illini at the University of Illinois after the Feb 9 publication of the cartoons.

I guess we just don't understand their thinking yet -

The Muslims are always Right and the Rest Of Us are always in the Wrong. Just ask them!!!

It's a shame the paper caved.

Well, looks like this one is close to getting shut down, so I'd just like to point out one thing: Islam does not specifically prohibit depictions of the prophet Mohammed. There are countless paintings from the heyday of "high" Islam (700-1100AD) depicting Mohammed receiving the word from Gabriel. The Persians, who had always been masterful artists, redirected their energy to religious artwork after having been assimilated.

The Koran prohibits depictions of God, who is not to be given any sort of material representation, but the prophet is remembered simply as a chosen man.

The whole idea that is currently causing all this controversy is a modern (probably Wahabi) interpretation and really has no grounding in the Koran.

Thanks for mentioning that. The question is why then such an intepretation is having such authority in the middle east and parts of asia?

How many Christians here? Show of hands? If I started to talk trash about the Blood Drinkers who worship a vampire Jew and make jokes about foreplay during the immaculate conception or Jesus screwing the apostles most of you would be very unhappy. If a visiting friend came to your church and talked about how I did that and had even started a contest to see who could make the worst ones you'd probably be really ticked off. With a little more work, or at least calculated thoughtlessness, I could probably get a dozen death threats from THR. Add in a war where my ethnic group occupied a third of the country and killed a couple hundred thousand Christians, and you'd burn down every synagogue in the lower 48 and call for the death of all the Jews.

Does that excuse burning down embassies or rioting? No. But anyone who can pull his head out and look at the world with anything less than complete self-absorption should be able to understand that much.

If I hadn't seen the absolutely insane reaction across the Islamic world to a handful of European CARTOONS, I would have been the first to say I was overstating the problem. But at this point I don't think we're dealing with a sane religion. It's organized madness, pure and simple.

Dude, people say this sort of thing all the time! Images of Jesus have been torn down, burned, defaced and even soaked in urine without the entire Christian world going ape over it. Indeed the only real debate has been over whether the government should be helping to pay for these things. Many plays are written showing Christ and his Apostles as campy gay men. The last I heard, Christian militamen weren't hunting down and murdering the playwrites. Indeed the only people who do make death threats over these depictions of Christ ARE THE CRAZED MULLAHS! At some point you have to judge the religion by the actions of its followers. And by that score Islam is a wild-eyed cult hell bent on killing anyone who even insults it. If there is such a thing as "moderate Islam", its followers need to rise up and shut down the extremist nuts who by all appearances are running the show from Oakland to Malaysia. I'm finished waiting for this to happen.

If Christians behaved like Muslims, we'd be seeing the Southern Baptists slaughtering Methodists in the south right now in retribution for the recent church burnings. But you don't see that, do you?

Tell,

I am a college student. You are going to have to try much harder if you want to say something that some other Christian-hating college professor hasn't already said. When they find out I am a gun-owner it gets really comical.

"A Christian who owns gun? How does it feel to be a hypocrite every day?"

Whats funny, is if they ever opened a Bible they would have a lot of crow to eat.

If you and your friends did that in front of every Christian in the world, you would not get the same reaction. Christians do not have a philosophy of 'kill the infidels'. (Ok, bring up the 600 year old Crusades now. Wow. Nevermind that 600 years have passed, and the frauds of history have been uncovered.)

All that said, IBTL.
