A few weeks ago, reading THR, I read a thread about the ISSC M22 pistol. I thought it was neat to see a 22 pistol in a frame that so strongly resembles a common full frame centerfire pistol. With the exception of the slide mounted decocker, and external hammer, it's very much "glock-like", which as long a glock won't make a .22, this is the next best thing.

(not my m22, just a file photo from teh intarwebs)

So I got one, from Bud's gun, last Friday, and got it out to the range yesterday. Initial impressions were, not so great. It felt a little cheapish (I know...$200, it probably should). I didn't know for certain whether it would come with one mag or two. I was hoping two. It ended up being one. Before I even shot it, the front sight fell off. I thought about having the manufacturer warranty it, but instead found the sight in the carpet, and glued it back on (I know...not impressive gunsmithing to be supergluing parts, but I didn't want to wait for it to be warranteed, and the warranty is good for another year, so plenty of time for it to "fall off" again, and get properly repaired that time).

So, on to the actual shooting...
It shot well. I was very pleased. I shot through a 100 round box of CCI minimags, without malfunction. I was worried about that, some reviews on the internet indicate it can be a troublesome gun. I didn't measure my group size, but I shot it right alongside my buckmark, and it shot about a 30% larger group size than the buckmark. Not great, but remember, the buckmark has a longer barrel, better sights, and generally, buckmarks have a reputation for being tackdrivers, mine's no exception to that.
The trigger feel was good. I didn't put it on the scale, but it felt fairly light (keep in mind I shoot a sigma. I have a strong finger). IMO, a fair to above average single action trigger.

I had several different types of ammo in the bag, to try out, and found one it didn't like. I had never personally experienced a .22 being picky about ammo, I had only read about it, and honestly I didn't believe most people who would claim a gun to be picky, until now. This thing absolutely does not like Winchester Xpert HV. On average, 5 rounds out of a 10 shot mag would misfeed. If I went back with the CCI's, or some federals of unknown specific variety that were also in the bag, the problem instantly went away. I don't know whether to blame the gun, or the ammo, but since I keep at least 3 or 4 different types of .22LR on hand, it is a non-issue. In the future, anytime I go to try out a new .22, at least 3 different types of ammo are going into the bag.

The rounds that misfed all cocked in the middle, where the bullet is seated to the brass. I don't know if that is a result of the misfeed, or the cause of the misfeed (chicken/egg/anyone?). It looks to me like the bullets in those rounds are weakly crimped to the casings, and maybe that flex in the middle of the round contributes to the misfeed. The overall bullet profile of the Winchesters vs everything else I shot was about the same.

In summary...my experience with this gun didn't start out so well, but by the end of the range session, I was satisfied with my purchase. Another mag would have been fantastic, but if you want a budget gun at a budget price, it is not unreasonable to have to give up something.

Also shot CCI stingers with no malfunctions. Those are fun rounds. In a handgun, they flash like a camera!
