I just bought a Winchester Turkish special Super X Pump Defender. I put it together, wiped it off and stuck it in the gun cabinet Wednesday. Today I got it out and blasted a bunch of shells through it. On one shot the slide would not come back. The bolt ended up getting stuck in the chamber. I had to take the barrel off, remove the trigger group and stick a rod down the barrel in order to remove the spent casing and bolt from the barrel. Having said all this I will say that the shell was an old and rusty one I was using. I put it back together and shot 10 more rounds with no problem. Do you guys think it is just new and needs broke in or is there a serious issue?

Most new shotguns come loaded with a rust inhibitor in the barrel to protect it while the gun is in the warehouse. You need to clean all that out really well. If you don't you will have shells sticking in the chamber just like you experienced.

I believe the only issue is with the ammo you used. I have absolutely no trouble with my SXP Defender and I have tried a variety of ammo (hi brass, low brass, cheap target load, cheap buckshot, expensive buckshot, expensive three inch magnum buckshot, cheap slugs, expensive slugs, average target shot) through the said shotgun, but not any with rust on it so far. I will try to avoid doing that has it seems to have caused you trouble. You should have a competent gunsmith check your shotgun just in case, it might also be your shotgun after all, or it may have been damaged by what happened. Besides that, I hope you enjoy it, I personally like mine. But do not forget I am still a newbie to shotgunning. Read what other more experienced shooters think of it also. I learn many things on this forum.

I cleaned it tonight. Hopefully this will take care of it. I really like it. It does however kick like a mule compared to my other shotguns.

Sounds like you might have been trying to say it was the gun

Well maybe a little. I guess I was hoping you guys would convince me it's not the gun. I have 2 1300's, a 12ga walnut deluxe I've had for 20 years and a black shadow 20ga that I've had for 15 years. They have been perfect for me. I don't like the made in turkey deal and was disappointed when it jammed. I have blasted off misc old rusty shells in the past and have never had to completely disassemble the gun to get them to eject. I think this is a combination of packing grease and old shells. At least I hope being this is a home defense shotgun. I can't have it jamming.

It's probably a combination of things. New gun. Old shells. Packed with grease or what have you.

Just tore down an old express for the 3rd time since coming my way. I loath to clean guns but but that had to happen. I just had to do the small things that either weren't done or overdone at the factory when it was put together. This was as much for my piece of mind as anything else I suppose. I must admit that it hasn't jammed.

I would polish the chamber, clean up everything I could and give it another go.
