Issues with new S&W 500 PC (Large Pics)

Absolutely send it back and let S&W give you your moneys worth. Those issues should not be on a new revolver. I think you'll be happy with the result. If not, send it back again. I've had good service from S&W warranty repair. They should have been right when they left the factory, but stuff happens, especially these days.

I say go shoot you X-Frame and put a smile on your face. Ain't that the reason you bought it? I consider the small cosmetic defects in all my guns like the freckles or birthmarks on the woman I've had over the years...........in other words, think of those drag lines as a tramp stamp.

Agreed. Nothing like holster wear and a few thousand rounds down the pipe to give a gun some character.

My buddy bought a S&W 629 Hunter Custom Center awhile back, from a "Pawn shop" ! This revolver is the sweetest shooting firearm I've ever shot. At 25 yds, this thing will pile them almost into the same hole, this is with handloads. The ps had all of the under lug weights, had everything but the wooden box that was supposed to come with it! The 629 he bought has the fiber sight, also IIRC, it has a couple other inserts too.

Too bad your wait wasn't worth your while! Hope you get things taken care of pronto!

Thanks again for your replies.

For those saying that honest wear is good and that the gun will be imperfect after hard use:

There is a significant difference, to me, between imperfections on a revolver from my using it, and imperfections that are the result of improper manufacturing and assembly.

The former brings back fond memories of activities in the field, the latter just reminds me of the disapointment of shoddy workmanship.

I am still waiting for the shipping label from S&W.

You should find a management person that you can contact also an send your phots to him and explain how baddly it bothers you to spend the money you did for a low quality version of a very expensive revolver. Don't forget to check that cylinder gap on it to. Might find out close to 10th's treather han 3 or 6th's. Remember people have had fingers cut off by the cylinder gap blow by with those to big boy revolvers so be carefull where your index finger or thumb is at when fireing after you get it back.

Thanks, hardluk1.

The smallest feeler gauge I have is about 6 thousandths and it will not fit in the gap. It looks like 4 to 5 thousandths and is consistent on all chambers and from top to bottom and side to side on the forcing cone face.

I am happy that this, at least, does not seem to be a problem.

Just an update on this issue-

I just got this revolver back from S&W.

Compensator/barrel alignment- Fixed
Trigger stop adjustment- Fixed
Grinder marks on trigger- Trigger replaced
Paint on front sight- Sight replaced
Front sight alignment- Fixed
MIM cylinder stop- reported as standard-not replaced
Sharp edges- not addressed.
I think they replaced the cylinder as well.

S&W did a great job on this gun in a timely fashion.

I will smooth the sharp edges enough myself so I don't get cut by them.

I just wish it looked like this the first time I unpacked it!
