I have been trying ammo in my New Taurus M605. It does not like 125gr. Neither does it like the 130gr!!! It certainly balks at the thought of being fed 110gr!!! They all shoot way low!! :banghead:

Well, I was at my whit's end when I found 100 rounds of 158gr .38spl in an old range bag. Seeing the need to shoot this ammo off, I grabbed the Taurus and off to the range I went!! Santa Maria, madre de Deos!!!! All the rounds went into exact point of aim!!! :what: The gun is actually quite accurate after all!!

Boy, am I relieved!! I thought I had a $300 lemon on my hands!!

Now, to find some 158gr .357 SJHP's!!!

;) :D

Greeting's denfoote-

I appreciate the information on the Taurus model 605;
as I will definitely pass it along, cuz a couple of my co-
workers are currently carrying this weapon. As a matter
of fact, one of them has mentioned that his 605 shot
real low!:uhoh: I don't know what type ammunition he
was using; but it could have been the 110 grain JHP's?

Hello Denfoote: I had a similiar expereience...

My SS model 605 shot groups beautifully; it's just they were clustered according to the gram weight of the projectiles that were fired through it.

When I was breaking it in and practicing, I shot a whole bunch of .38 spcls through it of various bullet weights. My results shooting all Georgia Arms .38 spcl loads at approximately 10 yards:

110 gr JHP+P's: about 3-5" low from POA

158 gr SWC's: about 3-5" high from POA

125 gr SJHP's: Right on the bulls eye!

I've read this phenomenon is due to the bullet weights and the recoil of the barrel affecting the impact point. (heavier projectiles impacting higher and lighter projectiles impacting lower)

Just grab handfuls of different .357 mag bullet weights and have fun experimenting. My 605 was definitely deadly accurate once I found the right bullet weight in .38 spcl and .357 mag.

BTW, my mod 85 Taurus did not seem to have the same sensitivity to bullet weight that my 605 did!
(Oh, and Proload makes a 158 gr JHP you might check out)

I seem to recall that my wifes 605 was picky about ammo and referred the 158 gr bullets I handloaded for it. In fact it was amazingly accurate with either the Hornandy XTP or the SWC.

Personally the first time I shot it I wanted to take it back. We were using Winchester Personal Defense ammo . The kick, noise and the feeling that someone was slapping me in the face were too much for me. My wife had picked it out and it was hers and we were going to keep it. I much preferred my 4" 586 or SP101. Just had to get used to a 2" snubby. Like I said a suprisingly accurate gun with the right ammo.

158 gr is the standard load for 38 Special. I would guess fixed sighted 38s would as a rule be regulated for it.

You could shave the front sight to set the gun up for 125s or whatever.

I'm not sure I'd be interested in shooting 158 357s from a short tube. You might consider 158+P LSWC-HP 38s?
