I know there have been many Italian companies making cap and ball revolvers since a long time ago. I know that some have gone out of business. Has there been any acquisitions or mergers, such that the tooling was carried over to a new or existing name, and parts may be interchangeable?

I have a Garret Sharps, which was made in Italy by Palmetto. I had heard that Palmetto sold it's machinery and tooling to one of the other makers. I also read somewhere that Palmetto's revolvers were actually parts made by another manufacturer and assembled by Palmetto.

The only three that seem to be still involved with the black powder business are Uberti, Pedersoli and Pietta. (Chiappa seems to come and go on a whim)

Did any of thee three take over the closed companies?
