Heres what I know Redfield in the 70's ( I believe the 70's) made rings for Ithaca for the model 37 and deerslayer model. They look similar to the Leupold steel 22 rings except there is 4 flat head screws, 2 on each side holding the halves together and a large Flat head screw that tighten to the dovetail. I also believe that Leupold made a M8 or supplied Ithaca with a M8 2.5 intermediate scope to be sold as a package. Heres how I know some what I typed is fact... I have been hunting with one that used to belong to my grandfather. It is as he bought it I am fairly sure. I have also been able to find tid bits of info here and there about the package.

My question is does any company still produce a scope ring similar. I cannot find one. Warne makes a tank of a 3/8th dove tail ring in conjunction with brownells called the 7.3 (brown ell version has 2 screws instead of 1) which in my opinion would handle the recoil but the part that "grips" the dovetail is to thick.

Question 2
Anyone else here have one? A DEERSLAYER with the scout scope?

I have examined good number of Deerslayers and have never seen one with scope attached to rear sight base via rings. The only place I have seen pictures was back portion ca. 1980 Shotgun Digest. I assumed they used handgun scopes using rings provided by Ithaca. Those rings were probably made for them by another company (Weave, Millet, Marble,.....?).

The rings were made by Redfield for Ithaca. They are 3/8th dovetail rings just like for a 22. But they have 2 screws on each side of the split halves. Not unheard of now days but maybe back then they were considered beefed up. If you take a look at a deerslayer most of them have a dovetail groove on the rear site. Even my "newer" model '87 police has it.

Here's a photos of an Ithaca 51 Featherlight Deerslayer 12 gauge semi-auto shotgun barrel with Redfield rings and a photo of the Redfield box.
