I would like to replace the stock on an M-87 Featherlight I inherited from my grandfather. The old wooden stock is beat to hell and doesn't fit me. I know ATI makes one but it's very pricey and I've already had one bad experience with a 10/22 stock they make.

I do not hunt with this gun. I have a long barrel for it but I keep the 20-inch on it for defense. This is my go to gun if I needed to defend home and family. I can't afford a carbine so I'd like to make it the best it can be for that roll. I'm also interested in a magazine extension.

I have no preference for wood or polymer. I would like it to have sling attachment points and a way to adjust lop or just a shorter lop than the original stock. Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

gunstocksinc.com should have some for ithaca 37. It's a pretty common stock pattern from what I understand.

You could just buy a replacement or youth stock and add spacers to the end.

They make a leather "wrap" that goes around the butt stock and lengthens then LOP and possibly heightens cheek area.

I got the ATI stock to be able to adjust to my kids length of pull. No mater how hard I tighten the screw the stock wobbles side to side. Save your money and look at the ithaca site for a more appropriate size stalk.

A stock from Ithaca will set you back $180.00 to get started. A buddy just bought one from them for his son's gun.

Is the screw bottoming out in the triggerguard tang instead of snugging up against a shoulder in the relief hole of the stock ?

The easiest way to determine this is just get yourself a bunch of washers and start adding a couple at a time and snugging it up.

You do not have to really crank on the stock bolt to get an Ithaca stock to be tight.

You should be able to tell if there is a problem with the inletting of the stock, simply by holding it up against the receiver. The design is such that the buttstock is pulled up against the receiver cutout by the bolt bottoming out in the stock.

The stock you would get from Gunstocksinc would have to be fitted, and they are currently out of stock. I asked them when and they do not know when they will make more, the answer was "soon sometime". I needed one for a restoration and emailed them.

Boyds is out of stock, but says they can deliver in 2 weeks.

Midway has synthetic stocks from different manufacturers

Those choate stocks on Midway seem perfect. I like the pistol grip option and the prices seem reasonable. Lop is adjustable and it has swivel studs. Guess I should have done a google search instead of staring this thread.

Anyone know of an aftermarket magazine extension for 37s?

Wow. i've bought two whole Model 37's for less than they charge for a butt stock!

9thchild, you can't extend the magazine on an Ithaca... gotta buy a DSPS M37 for a longer mag tube.

One way to make maximum profit on common old field grade Ithaca 37 is to sale it one part at a time. Typical Ithaca 37 (60s & 70s guns are most common on used market) brings about as much money as it did couple of decades ago. It was always a niche upland hunters gun never popular with typical hunters. The Deerslayer with tight bore was among most accurate mass produced slug shooting repeaters at one time, but being light for gauge they kicked like clydesdales.
