First of all I just received a 12 gauge lenght 47" model 37 serial # 371414181 from family member, and would like to know the year of make of the gun, if any one could answer I would really appreciate it. Also I do like the light weight action, and the release of shells after fired. The sight is not all that bad either. So are the new 37's made now in Ohio, of equall or better quality then the old? I see they sell for like $859.00 for a 12 gauge, and there releasing a 16 and 28 gauge gun this year sometime. Any information on these questions would be helpful. Way out west in California.

Mine is a 20 ga; 3711014xx that I bought with paper route money for $128 in 1970. (That was a lot of papers at something like 1.7 cents per paper).
Sorry, I can't answer your questions.

Mine is from the 1950's and was carried by my mother for many years before it was passed down to me (frankly, I think mom would have hunted longer if dad had gotten her a 20 gauge; he carries a 16, but she used this monster in 12.)

I'd like to get it refinished before deer season, but that's all it needs.

old or new

I have one in 16 ga. made in 1959--have had others made in the early fifties.

Very good shooters and chokes frequently are tighter than advertised.

You can find the older ones at gun shows in good mechanical condition for two fifty or so. I would prefer the older ones when I can get them
