A fella on another forum and I swapped grip frames, my birds head for his standard plow handle, and it is like having a new gun! He liked the birds head, I like the regular grip. I like the look of the birds head, but my big ole hands did not care for them at all. Heck, even my wife hated them. So, I think I might be shooting the ole .45 more in the future.

Did you all hate the Birds Head in certain instances? i.e. heavy loads, hot sweaty days, etc. Or did it always just feel weird?

The birds head grip frame was just too small for my hands. Even the plow handles are too small, as I curl my little finger under the grip. The plow handles just feel more natural in my hand.

I keep trying to like bird's head grips on single-actions, but I just can't do it. In rapid-fire the plow-handled pistol pivots on my middle finger and tips back until my thumb snags the tip of the hammer, then a wrist-flip cocks the hammer, the heel of the butt hits the heel of my palm, and the gun's back in battery and ready to go.

Bird's-head grips require me to use my two weakest fingers to absorb the recoil shock, while the lack of heel on the grips eliminates the reference point needed for rapid fire.

Give me good, smooth wood plow-handles every time!
