I believe it won't be long till gun control is back on the table and with a vegeance. Just remember the last time the Dems had control. It took awhile to undo most of the damage to RKBA. This time around could be as bad or even worse. I will say this right now. If your not a member of the NRA or other group NOW is the time to join even if for a year or two. These groups need to swell in numbers and quickly to show Congress we gun owners will not stand by idly. Calling your congressmen or senator is also good. But I can recall how the NRA had its membership swell with new members during the Clinton era. We need for it to happen again.

Already a member? Great, how about your spouse if your married? I just purchased a membership for my wife. She is just starting to get into guns and I told her its important to be a member. She agreed totally. Don't like the NRA? Join another group. But I also urge you to join the NRA anyways just to get the numbers up there. Even if for just a year or two. We stand a lot to lose these next few years if we gun owners don't stand TOGETHER! I stated once in another thread awhile ago. Everyone thinks that the NRA is the 800 pound gorilla in the room but I say that it lost some weight and is not as scary as before. We need to get that gorilla back up there. 800 pound gorilla? Hell it should be more like a 2 ton raging elephant. Otherwise we as a whole will lose.

Also for the ones that could afford it, if your a member of the NRA, try to donate extra money from time to time.

Pelosi tosses cold water on assault-weapon ban

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi tossed cold water on the prospect of reinstating the assault weapons ban, highlighting Democrats’ reluctance to take on gun issues.

Attorney General Eric Holder raised the prospect Wednesday that the administration would push to bring back the ban. But Pelosi (D-Calif.) indicated on Thursday that he never talked to her. The Speaker gave a flat “no” when asked if she had talked to administration officials about the ban.

“On that score, I think we need to enforce the laws we have right now,” Pelosi said at her weekly news conference. “I think it's clear the Bush administration didn’t do that.”

Outside of the dig at the recent Republican president, that phrase is the stock line of those who don’t want to pass new gun control laws, such as the National Rifle Association.

The White House declined to comment on Holder's remarks, referring reporters to the Department of Justice. The DoJ did not respond to The Hill's request for comment.

Izaak, keep on topic and temporally in order, your clip was what kicked off the paranoia and we now have Holder getting politically bi**hslapped by both the White House and the Hill.

"Like I take Queen Pelosi word as truthfull!!"

Hold on there--I am not crazy about Pelosi, either, but I think this mostly points out the difference between a politician who is appointed vs one who is elected.

Doesn't mean we shouldn't write our congressfolk to inform them of our thoughts on this.

Holder just showed his hand early. That can cost you in poker as well as politics;)

Never thought about that its a good way to get our numbers up. The more the NRA is supporting the louder our voice is.

Thanks

Agreed, But don't Forget Who did the Appointing!

If the White House was going to spank Holder, they would have made some statement, such as "no way, we are not going after your guns". No statement, in my mind, is a very bad omen. They are watching the fallout,we are being desensitized, then pounced on.

NRA now offers lifetime membership at $25 now, 25 per quarter until the 750 is paid. This is a much less painful way to get a life membership.

Go to NRA-ILA, scroll down to contact a represenative, type in your zipcode. A list of all your elected officials will pop up. You can also contact them directly from this site. Couldn't be easier.

Take note of the Second Amendment March,www.secondamendmentmarch.com. They are now organizing a multimillion gun owner march in state capitols and in D.C. in the spring of 2010.
If you want to save your rights and avoid another revolution get involved.

The NRA can go jump in a river, for all I care. They're a damn joke.

Great. With friends like this, who cares if we have enemies like Pelosi, Holder or Obama? There's always someone willing to let the others do their work.

Back on topic: I'm not sure who I'd consider the bigger liar...Pelosi or Holder. I'm not gonna get really excited about Pelosi's remarks just yet.

Sounded to me like she doesn't like it because she was left out of the loop. And what about Holder who mentions fully automatic weapons and grenades in his spech, that the AWB doesn't include because they are already illegal. (I know the loopholes) But adding these to his speach gives the ignorant public the idea that every body with a gun has a grenade!

The NRA may not be as effective as we want, but it's a good place to start. I am going to start writing letters, e-mailing and texting (god forbid) regularly! When my son asks me in the future why didn't I do something about it, I can say I did. And I don't want to be one of those people who piss and mone but wont lift a finger and some times even vote.

The time is at hand, we can make a difference together!

Sorry for the rant I feel better now.

Are you really that naive?

No but plainly you are

When you get 2 out of the 3 arms of government smacking you down that's know as a career limiting move.

Good reminder. Every USA gun owner who cares about keeping a right to own guns, should be a member of either NRA or GOA at at minimum, IMO. Or at least SAF or JPFO.

Wow this thread took off pretty good. The idea of signing up wife occured to me out of the blue. She is getting into guns and also belives its not the guns fault for violence but the person behind it. I said to myself "self why not get her a membership too?" LOL. Figured hey how many other members here might be members of the NRA or other group and are married, and their spouse is into guns but not a member?

For the poster that said that the NRA can go jump in the river, well at least join another group. We gun owners gotta stand up together these next few years.

You know I use to be a member of SAF also at one time but let it lapse. How good is SAF now? Might have to join them as well.
