It's old. It's worn. I think it's beautiful.

Love old Wheelies
Bought this old M&P 1905 4th change a few years ago.
Seems to be pretty good mechanically.

Cabela's had this old 1917 Colt in their used pile so I snatched it up

I like my revolvers either way ...

... with character or in mint condition.

S&W Model 19-2, made in '66 IIRC (lots of character), my favorite carry gun as well:

Wearing Ahrends Goncalo Alves stocks (which I greatly prefer to the chunky S&W Targets):

S&W Model 29-2, made in 1980, near mint condition:

S&W M&P (pre model 10) Transitional K Frame, made in ~1945 with a 5" barrel, plenty of nice wear:

S&W K-22 / Model 17-0, made '59 and a Model 14-4 made in '80, near mint:

I have the original diamond magnas for the K-22, but I stored them for safe keeping. Both are wearing Ahrends stocks.

Once upon a long ago...

I had such a revolver. A four screw S&W Combat Magnum, possibly an early Model 19. I sold it as consequence of an attack of poverty occasioned by the onset of marriage.

Sigh...

Enjoy that revolver. It wants, deserves and needs to be loaded with 158 grain SWC bullets over a stiff charge of 2400 - or something much like it; carried and shot from time to time, as needed.

Just for comparison. I just saw one last weekend at a gun show in Grand Island, Nebraska. It was a four screw, marked 'model 19' without dash and had the proper diamond grips. Asking price was $1200, U. S. Yankee money. I shed an internal tear if not external.

Sigh...

Good grief :what: .

Someone was smoking something.

Either that, or his wife told him to sell some of his beloved guns. He takes it to the gun show, puts THAT price on it, and when it doesn't sell he goes home and tells her "Honey, I did just as you asked and tried to sell that icky gun, but with the economy and all, I guess folks just don't have any money." :p

Heres a couple . a 19-3 and a Colt Army Special 38.
The Colt will be getting a Fitz Special treatment after the first of the year.

"... but, she's got a great personality..."

Sure, she's rough on the outside but we're continually told how it's "inner beauty" that counts.

That being the case, once you pull the hammer back on this one, she begins to shine... Firing it only improves the perception; smooth, accurate and just "feels right" in the hand.

OK, so she's rough around the edges, lost a bit of luster and presents best in subdued lighting - doesn't make her any less "beautiful"!

While not an old S&W I picked this Herter's 22SA up in a pawn shop yesterday for $60.

I saw the old thing sitting there just begging for a new home that knew what she was.... (Read that as a sucker like me! :D)

Let's see... Old? Yup 1964 date. Worn? Oh yea. The pics tell the sad tale. Beautiful? Yea, I like the old gal.

Need a set of grips. The homemade grips are, well, awful.

Those old Colts are nice also. I'm a Smith & Wesson guy mysellf, but you won't catch me turning my nose up at a Colt. I've owned several, including one Army Special from around the turn of the last century, I forget exactly what year though.

Nice find.

Hers is a S&W Model 15-4 I picked up a few days ago. The finish is horrible, but any day I can get an old S&W revolver in an even swap for a piece of Glock plastic, I'm a happy man. :)

I try to keep a sharp eye out for revolver deals in my area, sadly, I think there's a lot of old 'uns who favor wheelguns beating me to the punch most of the time. I hardy ever see any, and those that I do see are way overpriced for their condition.

My ideal - I hope someday to find a careworn 6" smith 19 that still has a good heart, and send it off to smith to be totally restored to it's original factory beauty. IMO that' my most logical way to get a safe queen looking gun that I won't have any qualms about taking to the range every week.
