At least in this area of California deer season starts in 3 weeks!.
SOOOO , I spent the day sighting in at the Swiss Rifle Club .
I got my 1958 vintageSavage 99 model F in .308 with a 70's Lyman All American Perma Center 4x witrh post reticule sighted in for 150 grain Winchester Power point plus ammo for the light stuff. I sighted it in 1 inch high at 100yards , which was very slightly high at 50 yards. I didn't group it at 200 but it hit 200 yard steel chickens dead on! It shot about 2" at 100 off the bench (ideal conditions! ).
I sighted my Remington SS Mod 700 .375 H&H (Brown Precision Stock, tuned 2.5 pound trigger , and Vais brake) in with it's 1.75-6X scope up to 6x about 1.5" high at 100 yards with 270 grain Rem Coreloktd. The gun shoots sub MOA rested! It also busted the checkens at 200 all to H double toothpicks! I DID draw an Arizona Elk tag , BUT I will use this on the bigger NorCal muleys also.
Notice I sighted them in for readily available fresh factory ammo! Just a hint for a lot of effort and money for a hunt not to go sour! I DID however sight my .224 Weatherby project in with my 53 grain Barnes Triple shock handloads at a chronographed 3500fps. They print around an inch with the scope at 7x and I sighted these dead on at 100 yards, they look to be 1/2" low at 200yards and group about 1.5" out there! This is my experimental Blacktail deer gun which would be used under 250 yards (more like 90 prolly) that is SUPPOSED to drop them like lightning! I just put a set of AO peep sights on myWinchester 94 Wrangler 30-30 and sighted 150 grain Corelokts at 50 yards-off hand got 2-3" groups good enough if one comes around 15-50 yards out when you don't expect it!
SO WHAT ARE YOU'ALL gonna sight in?
