It's kinda' funny, the original intent of my post was not that I had come back around to .22's (which I *have*), but more along the lines of I started with a bolt-action .22 as my first gun, and after a brief fling with "bigger" firearms, I'm back to a bolt-action .22
but now that I think about it, it works both ways, after all, I'm basically a recreational shooter, I poke holes in paper, so, logically, if the idea is to poke holes in paper, a .22 is just as good and just as valid as a larger caliber firearm, in fact, if the object is simply punchin' paper at 50 or 100 yards, I'd daresay the .22 is actually one of the better choices;
since the target holes are smaller, one can really see how precise they're shooting
targets last longer, as you can shoot a "target hole" anywhere on a target, then try to group your other shots around that target hole/shoot more rounds through the same hole, while bigger-bore shooters are changing their targets due to large portions of them being blasted away, I'm still shooting at the same target I set up when I first arrived on the range
(one of those multicolor "Shoot-n-See" coyote targets can last me a good half hour or more)
after a relaxing afternoon with my .22's my shoulder doesn't feel like raw hamburger
and the best reason? where else can you get 500 rounds of ammo for $15-20, *AND* have it fit in your pockets....
I still love my big-bores (.45 ACP/.30-06/12-gauge), but the humble .22 is just as much fun as it's bigger brothers
