I've concluded that all sports radio is anti gun

Of all the "talk radio" crowd, the sports guys in general are the least focused on fact. I used to do some "drive by" listening to ESPN Radio, usually Dan Patrick. It took very little time to figure out that DP doesn't know much about much and is pretty much a secular-progressive to boot. His infatuation with Keith Olbermann completes the puzzle. I have no need to stop by any nationwide sports talk show. There is a drive time local ESPN show hosted by a completely politically incorrect local host that I listen to on occassion.

Jeff B.

Burress did not use his brain, he should suffer the consequences. He is not the person which pro gun people should support. I do not agree with the NYC laws regarding guns and years ago I carried in NYC without a permit, however I was not out "clubbing" and I did not shoot myself in the leg. This guy may be a great football player but he obviously lacks common sense.
As far as media sports people are concerned, they are just like the majority of the public, difference is they had a platform to pontificate
from.

Gotta side with Glock River on this. Sports radio is a rather odd phenomena that has really taken off over the last 10 years. Jim Rome leads the way. He is syndicated on over 200 radio stations across the country, with 2.5 million listeners a day. Most of those listeners are 18 to 34 year old males.

And we shouldn’t worry about the anti-gun sentiment on these radio shows? “Anti-gun” may be a little harsh actually – how about “gun ignorant”? To me, an ignorant person is even more scary than a true anti. They don’t care. They sit back and don’t do anything. They can be influenced too easily by anti gun folks. They are the majority.

Sports radio, for better or worse, gives us insight into how the majority of American men think about guns. Or rather, how they DON’T think about guns. They don’t think about the Second Amendment, they don’t think about self defense, and they certainly don’t think about general gun safety. All they take away from this Plaxico story is that you are going to shoot yourself if you carry.

My neighbor is a former LEO and decided to go into a government administration career. He says he is pro-gun, yet voted for Obama, and said “there isn’t really a need for assault weapons, I don’t care if they are banned”.

I asked him what his definition of an assault weapon was. He had no idea. He couldn’t even begin to define it. But he felt they were bad and no one needed them. That’s ignorance.

And I don’t understand why a love for guns and a love for sports (and sports radio) needs to be mutually exclusive. In fact, I find fans of sports radio no different than folks that spend time reading and posting on gun forums! :neener:

Go Packers!

Sports are really just slightly more real than movies or soap operas for men.

Guns are more closely linked to legal issues than popular sports (NASCAR, football, basketball, etc.).

Why would you expect guns or the 2A to be a big issue? In fact, of all of my guy friends, almost none are BOTH gun owners and big sports fans. It's a weird phenomina.

I do think educating them is important.

I converted a few non-shooters or anti-gunners in the last week by just taking them shooting.

The most sports radio I get is the little blurbs from the local radio shows (Read pretty much none).

They were right as far as Plaxico being quite ignorant about what he was doing.

I have to laugh at the people who get all involved with the OSU/Mich games and never went to either of them.

I don't listen to sports radio, I try to avoid it, since I coldn't care less about sports in general. They bore the hell out of me. My sports TV/Radio consists pretty much of fast forwarding through the endless endings of football and basketball games that are running into the normal times of the stuff I actually want to see, and maybe the last game of the world series. That's it. I used to play football, and it bored me to death, so why would I want to watch it or even worse, talk about it? None of my friends listen to it either, and they actually care about sports.

I shoot, hunt, and fish; and subsequently listen/watch programs related to them. Why people who aren't playing a sport are so infatuated with knowing about it seems a it odd to me. I guess it is like women and soap operas.

That sports radio hosts are not knowledgeable about RKBA is not surprising as they probably spent their life either in a grope with other sweaty men, or wishing they were homoswitch.gif

Before everyone says "I don't listen to sports radio" or "sports radio is garbage blah blah blah," I want to establish right off that most guys listen to a little sports radio, regardless of what they claim.

I NEVER listen to sports radio, EVER. They talk about SPORTS.

+1! :neener:

Sports?! Why sports is a big nuthin'. Guys playing games, so what? I worked with this guy once who listened to sports blab all freakin' day. What a waste of time, all talk about nothing of importance. I'd be surprised if any of the sports talk clowns weren't anti-gun and ignorant about shooting.

Shooting is the greatest sport in the world. It's the only sport that directly relates to defending America. When there's a war, do we go out in pads and try to tackle the enemy? Do we try to throw a basketball at them or hit them with a bat?
