I too have had a Custom Classic MKI for the last 15 years. Never had any barrel rust issue but the top of the slide got some powdery rust on it once from my negligence. Its still my go to gun. The only thing I would suggest is the replace that damned plastic main spring housing if Kimber still uses them. Their first pistols even had them and it was the first thing I changed on mine.

I agree -- I also fitted a stainless steel bushing to mine to replace the MIM part that finally cracked at around 15,000 rounds.

kimber is a good choice, if you maintain it it will not give you any issues in the rust department.

So, trying every gun on the market EXTENSIVELY, and realizing that I shoot 1911s better than anything else, and that they work just fine for me makes me a cult member? Exactly what is it I was supposed to do to make sure that my opinion was well informed?
