I've hit a financial brick wall: S&W 627 or 686+

Think I'd buy an older (preferably P&R) mod. 27, 4 or 5" barrel. Just gotta be patient and look around.

I think the 627 is too much gun for most shooters. By that, I mean, this is a really highly tuned competition handgun that most shooters will simply not fully appreciate. Now, no doubt, it is a nice gun and I'm not saying you can't pick it up and appreciate the fine balance or nice trigger pull... but in my opinion this not just an everyday gun.

I also believe the 686 to be the finest mass production .357 revolver ever made. I have never met a single person who had one and didn't like it. Scratch that - I have never met anyone who didn't have one and LOVE it. It is the benchmark by which all other .357s are judged as better or worse, and only a Performance Center gun or an old classic is going to be able to beat it.

Someone said the 7-shot cylinder was too big... they are the same size as the 6-shot cylinders. And with the cylinder stops coming between charge hole, they are technically stronger.

Get the 686. It is an awesome gun and you can make it look super cool by picking out a beautiful set of grips that are uniquely "you." If you get it and don't like it, you will be the first.

what kind of budget would you prefer to stay within? I can see if I can turn somthing up for ya

I'm really not looking to spend much over $500 for the 686P. And I am in no way going over $600.
