Hey guys I recently bought a IJ M1 Carbine.

The previous owner some how broke the gas piston and the gas nut was also broken now there is a hole in the gas piston. I want to know if I can replace the gas piston & nut, since the IJ's are fully GI compatible.

Here is a pic of the broken gas piston.

I had a GI carbine from the CMP with a crack where you show a ... ... missing piece.

The nice folks at the CMP said the crack could possibly be repaired, at their facility with their professional M1 Carbine experts. The nice folks at the CMP also gave me the choice between replacement or repair, I chose replacement.

What did you replace? Just the gas block or the entire berrel?

I'm not advocating it, but I wonder if you could put release agent on the nut, then fill in with JBweld or something. on my tube it talks about repairing cracked engine blocks.....

if it doesn't work, well, it looks like your barrel is toast anyway. I think the barrel and the gas block are 1 piece. I've never noticed a seam on my 2, or on the spare barrel/gas block I have.

cmp is selling barreled receivers for 125. if you want the barrel I'll take the receiver and go half-sies with you.

I called CMP and the guy I spoke to said that they only work the stuff they sell.
I wouldn't mind doing that.

If I get the new barrel for $ 60 I would have $150 bucks on it.
