I know, I know I got too much time on my hands. Well I soaked the all so
bright white grips in a strong tea all night. Took a little of the bright off. Put
on the letters. Now what do you like the best? Ivory or Walnut???

I used the computer to put the letters on the picture. In 2 weeks I will see
a master engraver friend of mine Everate Smith "Smitty" from Ok, who will
screimshaw them on, both sides for me. Had you convinced didn't I?

I was wonderin' how it would've gotten on there so quickly... so, figured I'd ask. They do some great things with laser etching these days... and, it's quick too.

I've got a pair of ivory grips on my MkIV Series 70 .45 that are to die for... I paid $600 for 'em in the early 90s... nice scrimshaw on 'em too. (Yup, the real thing too... love 'em !!) Mine were done up in Alaska. Thought I'd lost 'em for a number of years... lost a brief case of gun stuff in a move and thought they were in there... found 'em a few years ago in with some old coins. Talk about one happy camper !!

It was definately a "do it just this once" type of thing. They're the "real deal" (ivory) and the scrimshaw is... well... "gorgeous" and enables the .45 to hold the name of "Mistress". :D

I also was very fooled on that one. it really looks like the letters are in the ivory. And on the ivory or walnut. I would have to go with ivory because just the whole fact of what it is and also it still does look very nice. I love your gun. Have you looked into mammoth ivory. great colors in that stuff.

Ratdog,

I apologize for my insensitive comment, I'm sure that many do NOT share my boorish opinion. It is a fine rendering and tastes are subjective, no need to remove from view as they are probably finer grips than I will ever own regardless of the choice of engraving.

The remark bothered me quite a bit... not so much the comment itself... but the pattern that appears to be growing within many of the forums within "The High Road" (almost ironic, isn't it?). The shotgun guys that don't like anything but a wood stock and a bead feel a need to criticize anything that is non-conforming to their liking... the 1911 snobs want to criticize anything Kimber (to make their likings appear superior)... the 1911 crowd (in general) and the Glock crowd feel a need to criticize the other. The AK crowd has to continually spread misinformation on the AR platform... the AR crowd has to try and make it sound like the AK platform isn't worthy of bandwidth... and on and on it goes, thread after thread. We're all gun lovers and enjoy what we like, instead of banding together and enjoy "sanctuary" from the "antis"... we're too busy bickering amongst ourselves like kids, seeing who can be the first to criticize another's offering of what pleases them.

Sure, everyone's entitled to their likings/dislikings and the expression of opinion. Sure, there's going to be loyalties to brands/platforms... and, I think everyone's capable of shouldering differing opinions... but no one wants to have their things met with condescending attitude, or patronizing back-door criticism.

It is also true that a dry, sarcastic or otherwise ill advised attempt at humor is lost entirely in the sterile of inflection internet post and sensibilities can be offended. Mea culpa.

That being said a certain amount of "thick skin" can be a good thing, and nude females aren't accepted in all circles as "High Road" either. When cast before a wide audience many differing viewpoints are to be expected, however expressions of disagreement can be done with far better tact and courtesy than my post exhibited. I will strive to improve.
