Looking for a comfortable (term used loosley) IWB holster for the Springfield Armory XD40 compact. Any suggestions?

Check out the holsters made by Tommy Theis, he posts here occasionally and has a thread in the for sale forum. His holsters are similar to Crossbreeds at a lot lower price. He's a good guy to deal with and has pretty quick turnaround.

I carry my Glock 23 in one and it is very comfortable.

Personally I prefer the original anything over the knock-off. I would buy the Remington 870 before I would buy the NEF simply because the Remington is the original. Don't piggy back off someone else's idea, go out and create your own product. Crossbreed doesn't take that much longer, and you get the real thing. Try looking up Crossbreed Seconds and see if you can find what you are looking for immediately available and at a reduced price. Most of these are the customer returns and are in excellent shape.

I carried a Service XD40 in a Galco summer comfort. It was amazingly comfortable. I wouldn't hesitate to use one for a compact either.

You'd probably want to look at the Tucker "Answer" then.

Thanks for the link. Had not heard of them until now. I like the lack of the logo on the belt clips as opposed to Crossbreed. Why advertise if you aren't getting paid to do so?

So you are saying Tucker brought out the leather/kydex IWB rig prior to Crossbreed? Do you know this for a fact? It might influence the order I was about to place.

I'll admit I don't know the exact date of the "Answer's" origination, but my "internet research" (for whatever that's worth, though as I recall it was a handful of holster makers that made the confirmation) indicates the "Answer" is the original of the species.

As a group, it seems as if holster makers like to give credit to who deserves it.

I carry an XDSC 40 everyday. I had to go through a few holsters to find what worked for me. I used a Comptac Minotaur for almost a year. Great holster and very well made but I don't like the plastic belt clips. I recently bought a Galco King Tuk. This holster is a dream I absolutely love it!! No complaints at all it costs less than the Comptac and Crossbreed, very well made and extremely comfortable. I think I paid $40 for it at my LGS.

I've carried an XD45C in a Comp-Tac MTAC every day for several years and absolutely love it. In my opinion it's the best design hybrid holster that's readily available for the XD. The Kydex wraps over the front of the slide so the front sight is protected and the finish doesn't get worn off by your pants. The sweat shield is just the right size and shape and the "extra" leather below the muzzle keeps it from digging into you no matter what odd body position you may find yourself in. My original belt clips lasted about a year and half of daily carry before one cracked. When I got replacements they had changed the design and the new ones are much better being injection molded rather than formed from flat Kydex. As rough as I am on gear I will probably get a set of metal belt clips from another maker and swap them on at some point. One thing to keep in mind that many people don't seem to think of: If you really like everything about a particular holster except the belt clips you can buy the ones you do like from whoever makes them and swap them on.
