IWB, which cant?

I am thinking about getting an IWB holster for my Kahr PM9. Never wore an IWB, only pocket holster for the PM9. I think I have decided on Kydex over leather but I am not sure about which cant I would like best, straight, front, FBI.

Any advice? also, which clips are better "J", "C" or "Clip On"

Straight will be worn on hip bone or just little forward. Very uncomfortable for me. Used to use the 4:30 position but pain has prohibited quick acquisition. Now I wear an appendix kydex. IWB with a swivel strap. Allows the holster to find the "sweet spot".

As mentioned, straight drop is usually 3 o'clock (9 o'clock for a lefty) or forward and an FBI (Forward Body Incline) canted holster would be 3 o'clock and aft.

Forward of 3 o'clock or appendix carry you could even use a muzzle forward cant. Lots of holsters, especially kydex modes will offer adjustable cant to allow you to try different options.

My cm9 and cw9 carry in a comp-tac mtac neutural, no cant, carry possition right around 2:00 to 2:15. You can still cant the pistol with the adjusters. Mine sets high enought to sit fine drive and still access my pistol if need be and still have several adjuster holes to put some lean in it if needed. Works for a fat boy so should be no problem for a skin guy.

I'm not that familiar with the Kahr line-up, but those are pretty small pistols, aren't they? I don't think you'd notice much difference and you may like kydex more, simply because it will be thinner and lighter. Don't expect to find the perfect holster on the first try. We all take a few attempts to get it right.

I wear a Kel Tec PF-9 (similar dimensions to the PM9) in a leather IWB holster, at about 3:30, angled so that the grip naturally greets my hand as I reach back to draw.

It is very comfortable, and presentation is fast and easy. It also conceals very well, even in a light tshirt. For perspective: I'm 6'2", 185, with a narrow waist. Many carry options print badly on my frame, but this one is great.

I'm right handed. I use a Commander-sized pistol. I preferred 3:00 to 5:00 leather carry with an FBI cant for IWB. Kydex was not comfortable to me.

I've always carried a 1911 at 4:00, so I've always used a leather FBI cant.

For a small pistol such as the PM9, I would probably use a kydex straight cant or muzzle forward for appendix carry. I have carried my P9 like this in an unknown holster which I cant find now...

One downside I can think of is that the grip is so short, you may have trouble getting a consistent grip while drawing. Might not be an issue with practice, but I just went back to a 1911. I think the lady might claim my P9 anyway.

JTQ, if this helps, the PM9 is comparable in size to a Colt Mustang.

One thing about the kahr and a couple other like sized pistols is you can set well above the belt an you can get a solid grip easily. Atleasy if its on the front side of your body.

I found it very helpful.
I am one of those people who have a hard time adjusting to an IWB mounted pistol but as an owner of a PM9 as well as a LCP I have found with my limited experience carrying IWB that the PM9 is more comfortable in the appendix mode for me at least.
But everyones body shape is different as well as their toleration for a metal object constantly jabbing them in the gut or torso.

IMO, don't like the fwd (FBI) cant, even though seems to be the norm. I'd prefer a backward cant to facilitate a better draw.

If its a crappy design or a good design executed poorly, they're all uncomfortable.

I prefer the KyTac BraveHeart for kydex, Milt Sparks for leather.

I run zero cant. Only thing i run IWB is support side appendix carry (Mexican Carry). Other than that i am usually OWB strong side at about 3 o'clock

I recently got a Safariland model 18 that I REALLY like so far for my Sig 239-9. Very good retention and perfect shape.
Synthetic Suede coated inside and out and very comfortable at 11:00 to 4:00. It has two belt snap loops that are adjustable with two allen screws for cant.
With X-draw, I adjust the grip down/back cant. With it around to 3:00, I cant it forward.
This holster stays put on the draw and it reholsters like an on-the-waistband. Super holster.
