Hey guys. As of now I have zero experience carrying concealed. I understand that the general consensus is that you don't need the extra retention when you carry inside but unfortunately my department dictates that my off duty holster have a thumb snap. From what I can tell my options are pretty limited. What I really want is an IWB with offset belt loops either in leather or hybrid. This is for a Glock 19 and sometimes a Glock 26 depending on weather/dress.

Here are a few that i've found. Please let me know if there are any others that I should be looking at. As of now i'm leaning toward the hero holster let me know if anyone has experience with them. Thanks.

Thanks guys. Those seem like good options. Does anyone have any experience with Hero Holsters. I'm leaning toward a hybrid at this pint but none of the big names like crossbreed or alien gear make one with a thumb break.

I strongly advise against any holster with a thumb break placed like that. That's right where you need to put your hand! Even on the hammerless Glock the thumb break needs to go over the back of the slide. They should have more sense than that.

Here is another IWB/thumb break: Bianchi "Pistol Pocket"

I agree that looks like a bad design, though I have no experience with it.

Garrett Industries may be able to make something for you. They now offer a thumb break option, and have several IWB models that may be able to have the thumb break added to.

Definitely NOT the 'Hero' holster....for the following reason:

The placement of the retention strap (as well as the length and flimsy construction) pretty much guarantee you will 'strap trap' yourself during the draw.

Even if you manage to work around it...it doesn't allow for a full, deep purchase of the grip.

Go back to the Galco and look at it, they have it right. Do not consider any thumb-break that isn't at least 'reinforced' (preferably spring backed).

Ray over at Lobo Leather can set you up with a thumb break on any of his holsters. I definitely recommend his horsehide IWB holsters.

This would be my recommendation also...if you have to have a thumb break for an IWB holster.

I'd avoid that Hero holster like the plague without knowing anything about them other than that they'd place the safety strap below the slide. I had a holster like that once and had to cut off the thumb strap to get any use out of it at all

I have used a number of Bianchi's Pistol Pocket IWB holsters and all have been satisfactory. I particularity like being able to adjust one to whatever cant or angle I want.

But frankly... I usually cut the thumb break strap off, as I've never found it to be necessary. It put where it is because some plainclothes officers and detectives wanted it to insure their handgun were secure if they got into a tussle with someone.

Are you dead set on an IWB? I only ask because the greatest advantage of the IWB is a high level of concealment - this comes at the cost of some comfort. You may not need a such a high level of concealment, especially if you carry a badge. There are many thumb break OWB holsters, some in the raven\bravo kydex style, that will still offer a good amount of concealment with much greater comfort.

Sorry to throw extra variables into the equation. I just wanted to point this out because I've purchased and sold a few IWB holsters because I couldn't get used to the way they made my pants fit.

Thanks for the feedback guys. I ended up ordering a Galco SC2 but I don't think it's going to work for me. Just from wearing it around the house it feels like it rides way too high. It feels like the gun can easily flip out even with a heavy duty gun belt on. It also seems to print a lot more than a pancake holster. I will be sending it back. Any other options out there for me?
