I recently took a gamble on a J. C. Higgins Model 60 semi auto 12 gauge shot gun. I paid $65 at the pawn shop for it. I took it home, disassembled it, coated the parts with Kroil, and let it set for 3 months. Last night I got it all cleaned up and back together. I then test fired it with Winchester Super Speed Xtra game loads ( 1oz. #6 shot, 2 3/4", 1350 fps ). The gun fired, but failed to extract the empty case from the chamber, and a loaded round was now positioned behind the empty case in the chamber. After placing the gun on safe, and clearing the failure-to-extract, I reloaded the shotgun and attempted to fire it again. Same results. I am able to feed and extract/eject an entire magazine manually with no trouble. The gas system has a series of cylinder wavy springs (8) and cylinder spacer washers (3). These are held in place by a threaded cylinder nut. The nut has to be tightened down far enough to allow the wooden forearm to properly fit in the forearm base. Does it sound like the extractor spring is too weak?? Any help you can offer would be greatly appreciated.
