ok, so I recently traded a S&W 637 for a 638. The 637 performed flawlessly, but I wanted the shrouded hammer of the 638 for pocket carry. I went to the range today and put 300 rounds through the brand new 638. If I squeeze the trigger quickly, it's all good. However, if I squeeze SLOWLY then at the very end of the pull, ( right before it should go bang ) It literally won't pull anymore. I have to let go and squeeze on another round in the next chamber, so that round doesn't get fired. Anyone else experience this? Should I contact S&W? Or should I bring it back to where I bought it? Any info would be appreciated.

by the way first post. I appreciate all the info shared on this forum.

The cylinder is failing to "carry up" or fully rotate when you pull the trigger slowly. There could be a number of reasons, and without being able to inspect the gun I can't tell you more. The answer might be something simple, or it might require replacing some expensive parts.

I would contact Smith & Wesson's Customer Service Department. They will send you a mailing label and cover the shipping costs going both ways. Whatever needs to be done they are in the best position to do it. You will lose the gun for a few weeks, but having it fixed - and done right - will cost you nothing. Also it might come back with a much better feeling trigger pull...
