Blackhawk OWB

frisco what do you recommend for OWB of a J frame then for active wear?

I haven't given the BH the workout you have so I am disappointed with your experience.

When actively working around the farm, I tend to carry in a thumb break holster.

friscolatchi, sorry you've had trouble with the Blackhawk. I can't even pull the gun out of mine with force unless I draw at a forward angle. Straight up or backwards doesn't work; the gun is stuck in the holster. The front end has that elastic piece that allows the holster to expand and release the gun. Might your holster be defective?

Best regards

That's the way mine is.

Gents,

I can't understand either. It appears to be a perfect fit and in order to draw the gun I have to cock it forward against the elastic just as you do. I could not believe that the holster was the problem until I tried it last week. When I checked the 340 it was leaning forward against the elastic just ready to pop out. Mind you I was in the house at the time without a coat on. The first time that I lost the gun I was leaning over a small pool of water at a stream wearing a jacket.

Believe me, I"m in love with that holster. I just don't trust it unless I"m at home. What I may do is use it again, keeping the Mika in my pocket in case I have to run out.

DAdams, I bought a desantis thumb break scabbard for the best possible retention. It's not as nice as the blackhawk, as a matter of fact it's butt ugly, but it'll do for now. I have 3 holsters from SimplyRugged for the 44's and the model 19 and I may try the pancake for the 340.

If I didn't live in NY and wasn't so paranoid about absolute concealment and exposure I wouldn't think twice about using the Blackhawk, unless I was over a body of water or hanging off the side of a cliff.

Dear OP, sorry for taking your question off course. I value all and any info from the folks on THR. Maybe we can bring the discussion to DAdams thread.

What do you use for IWB, or do you carry IWB?

Hope you're all well.

Frisco

I have a Don Hume clip on IWB holster for my J frame:

http://www.donhume.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=65_5&products_id=35

They're not too expensive at $30 and they are well made and comfortable to wear.
(For myusername01 - or anyone else who knows the answer.)

Is the mouth of the Don Hume 715 reinforced enough to enable easy reholstering?

I bought an inexpensive Kirkpatrick Leather holster for my 642 and it's all but impossible to reholster without dropping your pants.

All of the Don Hume holsters I've seen were reinforced. I use to have the IWB h715 m w.c for my jframe. Now I use a blackhawk iwb for my sp101, it's ok but I think I
gunna buy another Don Hume. You can't really beat the bang for the buck.

Since we are talking CCW holsters, am I correct in thinking that if:

- IWB is NOT an option (since too many work days on "no gun" worksites and can't afford two wardrobes of pants), and
- the firearm is a 2" barrel but larger than a J and a bit large for a pocket carry holster, and
- The wardrobe restrictions require tucked in shirts but SHORT lightweight jackets are fine

Then a HIGH RIDE belt holster, and especially a belt slide holster, would maybe work, since the short barrel would be unlikely to come low enough to flash below the jacket?
