I'm looking for some advice on how to carry a J-frame. I just put the deposit down on a new S&W 637 and am waiting for the judge to sign off on me picking it up. Specific holster references would be quite nice.
Is a shoulder rig over-the-top for a J-frame? I'd think about IWB, but can't be sure that my shirt isn't going to ride up over the top. (I have a IWB for a Beretta Px4 Storm - my shirt too often gets pinned between the grip and my back). I need to be 100% sure that I'm not going to print or expose the gun for me to be comfortable with carrying it.

DeSantis Nemisis for the pocket, Speed Scabbard for the hip, and their leather (not nylon or plastic) ankle holster. I own and have used shoulder holsters for a J-frame and feel the they are a bit much for a small gun.

I can't seem to carry even my LCP in a Nemesis without printing... so I don't think the Nemesis is an option for a J-Frame for me.

DeSantis Nemisis for the pocket,
+1

Really handy and reasonably priced. I knew I was going to have to disarm yesterday when I went to vote. Just took holster and all out of my pocket and put them in the glove box before I went in to vote.

You can see that I have SOMETHING in my pocket when I have my Model 36 in mine, but there's no way to tell WHAT.

Of course Ohio is an open carry state. "Printing" has as much legal relevance as "heresy".

IWB works just fine for myself using a simple nylon holster, don’t feel the need of getting to complicated for a J frame.

Try using a handkerchief to break up the outline.

+1 on the Mika. I pocket carry my 642-1 in a Mika round-cut, square-cut, or Uncle Mike's depending on the style and size of the pocket. If I'm going to carry IWB or OWB I move up to a Ruger SP101 in .357 magnum.

I also carry a J-frame in a DeSantis Nemesis. I also have an IWB Gould and Goodrich holster like this one: http://www.gouldusa.com/products/pr...ouser+Holster&line=Other+Concealment+Holsters

I also use a Galco Speedmaster which is a pancake style OWB holster. These look like a lot of leather for a small gun but it really flattens out the gun's profile. However, I would not recommend it if it is to be your only carry holster since it does take an untucked shirt or even a jacket to hide.

Ditto on the Uncle Mike's pocket holster, Size 3 for the J-frames.

Just toss it in your FRONT POCKET and forget it! The Nemesis is basically the same, but a few bucks more.

IWB works well too, especially with the steel-framed J-frames such as this Model 36 in a left-handed Kramer IWB:

340 M&P in a Mika Pocket, or Uncle Mikes belt clip IWB.

Would like a nicer IWB rig, but the cheapy UM does surprisingly well.

Uncle Mike's Pocket #3 is a good 2nd choice
to the Mika. The 2 benefits to the Mika are,
they don't lose their shape at the bottom
and you can re holster the gun easily.
Regarding the Uncle Mike's IWB,
I bought one a month ago.
The clips aren't what they used to be.
If you wear it left front and sit down,
the holster moves up to the point
where it feels like it could fall out.
Maybe it would work better with a belt,
but the old clips worked great without a belt.
They used to make one with a metal clip.
I used the size 15 which was one size bigger
than for a J Frame. It completely covered the frame,
so just the grip was above the belt line.
It was the best IWB I ever used.
But, they stopped making it.

In Dockers or Levi Cargo pants, the pocket holster by Galco works for me as long as I am not seated.

Some kind of chest/underarm/cross draw carry might be worth looking into if you spend a lot of time in a vehicle.

edit:
I gotta add the Tyler grip adapter pictured in a couple of the preceeding photos, is good stuff. As is the Birami Hip-Grip.

I mainly carry my 638 IWB in a Bianchi Pro 100. For pocket carry, count me in with the Uncle Mikes pocket holster.

I carry my S&W 37-2 Airweight in either a Kramer Pocket Holster in my left (off-hand) front pocket or a Galco Ankle Glove. I used a DeSantis Die Hard ankle holster for about ten years, but it finally wore out and I got a better deal on the Galco than I could find on a new Die Hard. I consider them to be of equal quality.

I think if you are not going to pocket or ankle carry a J-frame (especially an Airweight or Airlite), it makes sense to carry a bigger and/or more powerful gun. The J-frame is the perfect pocket gun IMO. For me, the pocket J-frame is almost always a backup to a more powerful belt/IWB pistol, or on duty, to my service pistol. Every once in a while I go somewhere, in some manner of dress, where I can't carry anything other than my pocket gun. In those situations I generally wear a fanny pack with a larger handgun while I am driving to where ever it is, then lock the larger pistol in my car lock box. The one time a pocket holster is a problem is when seated/driving, hence the fanny pack.
