J frame control?

my S&W j frame model 649 came with uncle mike boot grips which only allowed a two finger grip with the pinky finger hanging off the end and doing nothing.

i put on a hogue grip #60000 and it really made a difference in comfort and control. THEY ARE BLACK RUBBER WITH A PEBBLED SURFACE AND PROVIDE A FULL WRAP INCLUDING THE BACKSTRAP AND ARE LIGHtER IN WEIGHT THAN PACHMAYR.

I have carried a S&W 642 and shoot it reasonably well. However, I find that I can get much better groups at 7 to 10 yards with my Kahr PM-9 in 9mm - it has become my constant companion.

Does the gun begin to move from recoil even before the bullet has left the barrell?

Yes it does. The dwell time in the barrel during recoil is why fast light bullets shoot lower than heavier slower bullets. The longer the bullet is in the barrel the more rise of the muzzle before it exits.

If I have a fixed sight gun that happens to shoot high at close range I simply aim low or lower the front notch in the rear sight.

David E, my support hand's palm is facing rearward and slightly up. It's pointing to my face.

First bench the gun. Let us know it shoots.

I have a 360PD. I have large hands, and, J frames, including the 63, are not guns I shoot well. At 7 yards, I can't head shoot with a 360PD. It's body only.

I find the J frames and large hands don't work well together.

Finally, the light weights have a recoil speed that's ALL their own, and, it may NOT be possible to shoot them accurately, regardless of how good you are with REAL guns.:D:neener:;)

I'm trying to be nice, but, get on beartooth's website, use the recoil calculator, and, you maybe able to answer your own questions. The short version:
a 12-15 oz gun can recoil at over 50 fps. Double the weight, 25 oz, ala the 60, and recoil speed comes down by over twice, into a range people can control.

I shoot guns that can be loaded to 80 ft lbs of recoil. They STILL only recoil at 30-40 fps, no where near the speed of the lightweights, which can get well over 50 fps, with full house .357 loads.
SPEED KILLS, IN PARTICULAR IN THIS CASE.

Ok. How's the rest of your stance look?

In a nutshell, 70% weak hand, squeezing grip panels together, 30% strong hand. Utilize solid "static tension" with your arms and with a little practice, you can do some accurate rapid fire.

We should trade guns. My M38 constantly shoots low. If I shot yours and you shot mine we would both be dead on. I am only joking. I know that mine is flinch related and is somthing I just have to work on.
